[Costco] $439.99 - LG G8X ThinQ 128 GB Aurora Black Unlocked Smartphone

Hey folks,

My first time posting a deal here. I have this phone already and it's fantastic, quick and reliable. You won't find a better price for an unlocked phone with the specifications it comes with.

Thanks!

I like the price as well.
It's just LG is very slow to update Android OS..

had this phone from costco, at regular price of $499.99. Returned it, front fingerprint scanner just work 10% of the time

With the Pixel 4a being $479, I don't see this being the best phone you can buy at this price range unless you REALLY need to save $40.

No, a screen case cost like $200. At almost $700 might as well get the koodo V60 dual screen.

Samsung A71 with free BTS buds for $407 is a much better deal IMO.

The g8x is SD855, isn't it? It's faster than the other phones mentioned (pixel and a71)

Also has a 4000 mah battery vs 3000 in most.

Registering same digit more than once helps a lot, did it on mine rarely missing a beat now. Still slow compared to others but way more tolerable now.

Isn't this the same phone that koodo subscribers can get for 24x15=$360? On top of this, there's usually a bill credit of 100 or something.

Yeah LG ain't too forthcoming with updates alright. Owned mine since launch (Nov 2019) having received only 3 updates, one was Android 10 w/security patch... Still on August's patch now.

I think this quote shows how this is a great deal - the G8X is a significantly more powerful phone for a lower price.

Google has done a great job marketing and LG has done a terrible job, but the G8X is a flagship caliber phone (SD 855) vs a mid-range Pixel 5 (SD 765) vs mid-low range Pixel 4a (SD 730).

In terms of performance, the LG is 40-50% faster than the 4a and 20-30% faster than the 5. Whether you need that performance is up to you - and perhaps all you need is a Civic, but you can't say it's better than a Porsche in all regards. A more comparable phone would be the LG Velvet (same chipset as the 5, so still faster than the 4a) - and this is currently free or almost free after you get Black Friday phone credits for a new contract.

So this is a price drop on the previous deal?

Oh, the LG is definitely faster on paper, but the Pixel does benefit from less bloat compared to the LG as well as a reasonable expectation that you will actually get updates. The Pixel camera will also blow the LG out of the water.

The LG might be "faster", but the Pixel is "fast enough" and beats the LG in the areas where people will care.

I had the phone for just over 3 months (just passed costco's 90 day by a few days, darn).
I like it. Fingerprint works most of the time but not as good as the old LG back button. Works in controlled conditions. IE when outside and finger is dryer or wetter than normal is when I have issues. But for 439 this phone is great. Considering to get this for my 14 year old as well.

I had the same debate between this G8x and the Pixel 4a. Decided on the G8x due to it being waterproof and having a second year of warranty. Also registering the same finger multiple times helps a lot with the scanner, mine works pretty much every time now
