[Costco] Acer VG240Y 24-in IPS Gaming Monitor, (165 Hz, 1920 x 1080) $179.99 ($80 savings)

Model: VG240Y Sbmiipx UM.QV0AA.S01
Features:
Resolution: (Full HD) 1920 x 1080
Refresh rate: 165 Hz
Response time: up to 0.5 ms
AMD Free-Sync
Vesa wall mountable

Seems like a good price for a <1ms 165hz 1080p IPS gaming monitor.

I used my $25 auto renewal bonus to basically cover the tax.

That's a very nice monitor. Although for anyone on the fence if they should get a 1440p 165hz or save and get a 1080p. I suggest 1440p, I made the mistake of going with 1080p and it was honestly fine except for games, they look much nicer in 1440p for some reason. Anyways this is an awesome monitor probably

What do upvotes and downvotes even mean is there like a karma system like Reddit?

1080p at 24inch is fine, and this is good deal for the higher refresh rate.

27 inch is when you want to get 1440p instead

Refresh rate only matters though if your computer can get to a high fps

Yes, 1080p (FHD) is the ideal resolution for a 24 inch monitor (in my opinion). As you mentioned I would only look at 1440p (QHD) for a 27 inch or bigger monitor.

The 165hz is a bonus, but I don't see this being much different from 144hz... but definitely a huge improvement if you are replacing a 60hz monitor and your video card can handle it.

I was wondering about the down votes too, but I've been active in RFD long enough to know to just let things play out. For those of you down voting, add a comment to the thread - I want to know the negatives to this monitor and a thumbs down tells me absolutely nothing.

Pretty much, except downvotes don't count on your profile. Don't know why everyone complains or could end up hidden like YT, which isn't a good thing. They could perhaps make it like Reddit so only the score shows, not the individual votes.

Nothing at all, like post count or join date just a statistic while downvotes don't even show. Back in the day there was no voting but I find the score helpful to gauge a deal.

I look at it a little differently: to me it seems subjective and conditional on people's personal preferences, there is no objective rule on what's "fine" or what objectively "matters". What's fine and what matters are different for different people.

For me, I've been spoiled by the high PPI density of devices like the Surface Pro and MacBook Air M1, devices that have higher than 1080p resolution on screens much smaller than 24inch, with excellent scaling done by the OS. There's a reason most manufacturers are moving in this direction, that high pixel density really gives a very sharp image and sharp text (same reason why mobile phones are moving to QHD and above as well, on screens a fraction of the size of a 24inch monitor). I wonder if in some sense 1080p is getting a bit archaic and long in the tooth as more and more devices transition to higher resolutions.

It's really hard for me to go back to 1080p on a 24inch, losing the sharpness and discerning individual pixels on text is tough. Again, this is just me, I found it hard to go back. For gaming, I'm a bit weird in the sense that I have the opposite view of most - I think for gaming, the lower pixel density doesn't seem to bother me as much, but for work and productivity I'm more inclined towards higher resolution (probably because of reading text, email, excel sheets, etc.).

Even with Windows scaling (which seems surprisingly good these days), you can get the benefits of that "crispy" clear image while still keeping things reasonably sized (just as they do on the Surface Pros, Macbook Pros, etc.).

This is the direction the industry seems to be moving in, and it's a welcomed one.

Don't mind the downvotes. Anything posted here that's considered "budget" or "entry level" is downvoted to oblivion because heaven forbid you don't want to spend money on the latest and greatest.

Thanks OP

Anyone have any recommendations for a "budget" 27" 1140p 144hz monitor?

I need to replace a monitor in my home office, my other one is already 27" so I would like the same size, with the addition of my Xbox I might as well splurge a bit for a proper gaming monitor :P

I haven't checked all the specs entirely, but from what I know that monitor doesn't have high refresh rates. It's an "average" monitor.
Whereas the deal is on a monitor that has that it. If your only purpose is for WFH, then your Asus monitors will do the trick.
