[Costco] APC Back-UPS 1500VA/865Watts $100 YMMV (Kelowna, BC)

Saw this in Costco Kelowna, BC today. Obviously YMMV.

APC Back-UPS BX1500-CA @ $100. Was marked as $139.97. Managers clearance it seems...

Good price. Has anyone seen it at that price in Etobicoke? I know they had them at regular price 2 weeks ago

Finally. This item has been carried by Costco for years and I've never seen a sale. This is a great price, if you can find it. Even at $140 it's a deal.

I forgot about the sinewave thing, but that only affects AC device right?
I doubt my current APC has sinewave but I still plug my server on it.

No, it was a manager deal I think. Marked down by pen.

TomLafinsky wrote: You got that right! I measured the THD (total harmonic distortion) and got 67%!!! Your hydro has a THD of less than 5%. So the best thing to do when using sensitive electronics is to shut them down in a normal fashion when the UPS kicks in.
Isn't that pretty much all a UPS is designed for anyway? Regardless, I'm not sure THD has any real meaning for the kinds of devices you're likely to plug into a UPS like this. With mine, I have my router, modem and a 3.5" external HD plugged in. All operate on DC voltage and come with a "wall wart" plug to convert from AC and thus don't care about THD and don't require a pure sine wave. In fact, off the top of my head, I can't think of a single pure AC powered computing device these days.

Edit: even my flat screen TV's nameplate lists the power requirements as: 100-240v, 50-60Hz so it has a switch mode power supply and also doesn't care about quality of power (although I won't be plugging it into my UPS).

yeah, I have my desktop computer automatically go into hibernate mode within two minutes after a UPS kicks in. That way, you don't have to worry about losing anything, you can pick up after you left off. All the UPS has to do is keep my router/cable modem going after that

If I need to use a computer, I have my tablet or laptop.
