Anyone know if you can use airplay from say a MacBook Pro to this version of Apple TV or does the actual television itself have to be airplay compatible too?

Yes you can air play directly to this! TV can be anything.

Guys I have a fire stick 4k, Nvidia shield tv 2017, and Chromecast TV by Google, as well as android players.
I am definitely a hoarder. I now bought this apple tv 4k.
My question is:
If my primary watching habbit is IPTV, Netflix, Amazon Prime and YouTube. I know I lose the IPTV with this applr box, but do I gain anything in viewing experience by switching to this ad my primary device over the others?

It has Airplay, Apple Arcade, ATV / itunes so benefit is if you are already in the ecosystem. I got 3 months Arcade trial with my iPad so will be trying it out.
