[Costco] (BC Only) Electric HOT! Sinope 3-pack Smart WiFi Thermostat for $159.99 (after BC Hydro rebates)

UPDATE: Costco Willingdon still has 109 units at closing as of October 21st, so still plenty of stock to go around. Ask a supervisor to pull one for you from the back. The cards are hard to find on the floor.

NEW ITEM: Item # 6554100

Stumbled upon this new item yesterday during my Costco haul at Willingdon in Burnaby and it happened to be on sale - talk about a strategic product launch!

This item is NOT available at costco.ca

The regular price would've been $280, but BC Hydro is offering $40 off each in rebates at the moment, which brings it to the $120 discount.

@ $160 for a 3-pack you're essentially paying $53.34 for each, which is a STEAL when compared to the Mysa sale from a few weeks ago. Essentially you're getting a product with wider compatibility for a much lower price all backed with Costco's legendary return policy.

The good thing about these are that they work for Electric Baseboard, Short Cycle Convectors, Fan Forced Convectors AND Radiant ceiling heating. I hesitated on Mysa as it just supported baseboard heaters making these thermostats useless if we moved into a place with a different heating system.

This model from Sinope supports all 3 major Home Assistants (HomeKit, Alexa & Google Assistant) and connects via 2.4GHz WiFi - no proprietary hub needed, just a stable WiFi router. Don't care much about the Hardware UI as I mostly rely on voice assistant & home automation to use the heat, but if you must insist, the two buttons on the thermostat are used to set the temperature and that's it.

Oooh, the display has an ambient light sensor so it won't light up the room at night but can also be set to "On Demand" mode so it turns on only when one of the buttons are pressed.

Installation (2-wire) took about 20 minutes for all three thermostats.

BC Hydro sale ends on October 30th, so buy now test/think later.

Item # 6554100

Happy shopping.

These were 205 on the east coast, $75 off only. Nice little units considering they are over $100 each individually. 3000W model only, 4000W model is also available but not through Costco. Also noted the 5pk programmable honeywells were about $79 IIRC, hitting the price of basic honeywell units.

Thanks!

Does anyone know a WiFi thermostat for baseboard heaters that can handle 4500W though?

I have sinope, they work really well. I don't have the new version that works with voice assistants. Recently they added geofencing to their app which is really cool. You set a radius from your house and if you travel outside that radius, it will automatically set your thermostats to away mode. When you reenter the radius it will turn them back to home mode

Using HomeKit, I can turn the thermostat off. If I lower the heat using the physical button on the thermostat, the lowest I can go is it 5°C.

It would also depend on your existing wiring (double pole vs single pole thermostats). If your existing thermostat has 2 wires you have single pole and cannot completely shut off the thermostat. If you have 4 wires then you can do double pole switch and turn off completely.

You can turn this off completely as well. In the WiFi generation it's called "stand-by mode"
