Where do you see $50 Birkenstocks? They are all $130-200 from what I can see.

Are you looking at cheap knock offs?

Or maybe you're seeing the cheaper ones that are fully plastic? Those don't have the cork bed or leather straps and are meant for wearing on the beach/by the pool/in the shower

They aren't for the looks really... The cork foot bed is really good for arch support. These are usually recommended by doctors and orthopods/podiatrists

If you have insurance, some orthopods can custom make Birkenstocks for you that might be covered by your plan

Thanks OP. It was a buy now think later. These don’t have the leather upper so I don’t know what to think of that.

The footbed molds to your feet after being broken in. The support is great and you can go a day without tired feet (though the break in period can be horrendous)
