[Costco] Blueair Classic 605 Air Purifier $679.99 ($170 Off)

The Blueair Classic 605 Air Purifier is on sale at Costco starting today: https://www.costco.ca/blueair-classic-6 ... 70589.html

If you have the $100 or $200 coupon code from the previous Costco.ca promotion this could be a good time to use it!

Costco also sells its replacement filter in a 2-pack for $209.99: https://www.costco.ca/blueair-air-purif ... 09237.html

Bought this purifier a couple of months ago and really like the classic and modern design. It is also pretty quiet running in the background.

CBC Marketplace also tested a different Blueair purifier and it yielded excellent results, so the brand can be trusted: https://www.cbc.ca/news/business/portab ... -1.5900782

I have this model and it's great. What I will say is you can often find them on used marketplaces because some people but them without knowing the filters coat a lot. I got mine for $200

From you experience, how often do you find you need to replace the filters? at first impression yes it does seem quite expensive for the replacements. I'm also curious why this one is such a higher price premium over other models on costco...is it just the size of the room it can filter?

Blueair is excellent quality, and I believe their stuff is independently certified/verified.

This unit filters ~700sf 5x/hr, which is why it's a big more expensive than the $2-300 ones on Costco (which may filters ~200sf). CADR on this unit is ~640 which is high relative to others at ~100-200. It also filters smoke and odour, so it has a carbon filter included (i think).

They say ~6 months but you can get by with longer.

Air purifier, in Canada, is a waste of money in my opinion.
Maybe good if explicitly used for a certain use case like getting the odor out, in a factory or industrial area. Or when used by people with allergies.
Otherwise it's a waste of money for home use and takes away the immune system's workouts...

In recent years we've had days or weeks of extremely hazardous air quality in BC due to wildfires burning (both in BC and the US).

Parts of Alberta are dealing with this issue right now.
Nasty stuff that can have long term consequences on your health.

I finally caved and purchased two of the less expensive Winix units from Costco this year.

With the cost of filters I don't understand how people run these 24/7 unless you have forest fires going on outside.

Yes that marketplace show was informative and with some very surprising results. What is the CADR ( clean air delivery rate) on this unit which is the most important metric. These were some results from the program.

Wondering if anyone has experience with one of these with the goal of reducing pet dander specifically. We have some family members with allergies and I am wondering if this would help reduce reactivity when they visit.

Yes. This is what people should consider before buying any purifiers...

Consider the cost of operation before purchasing the units. Some units are priced to sell or looks attractive but they make their money worth from the filters. Blueair requires 6 month filter changes.

I personally went with rabbitair minus a2 because when I bought it 2 years ago, my researching shows that unit has lowest cost to operate. Filters are rated for a year as well.

i got the cheaper blueair models (the circle small ones)... and I found I just replace them once a year, and vaccum it every 6 months.

It's only super dirty after the summer months w/ the fire smokes

Great investment for those living on the West Coast with the smoky air predicted in our summers. Carbon filters required!

3 straight days of heavy forest fire smoke.........

and yes, it makes a noticeable difference
The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten....

The filter is quite expensive
how long do you need to change the filter in general?

The manufacturer recommends every six months, but you can practically do it less often depending on how dusty your environment is (e.g., areas affected by forest fires versus not).

During regular cleaning/vacuuming of the house, I would just vacuum the air intake grill to get the larger accumulated dust off. However, it is worth noting that when I changed the filter it was *very* dusty.
