Pardon my ignorance but ... that's how much these things cost?
Is this an upper-tier product? Middle range pricing? Cheap pricing?

There are cheaper options. Search bidet on Costco.ca and you'll see the various ones, choose the one that appeals to you. The cheapest option is 40 bucks

You can get to handheld ones for less than a hundred bucks. The high-end toilet seat ones from Kohler cost you $3,000 and more . For the Canadian winter it may be better to get one that has temperature control. These ones are hooked up to the hot water supply that goes to the sink. so make sure you have a source of hot water supply close to the toilet

I bought cheap $60 Luxe Bidet Neo 185 from amazon back when pandemic just started and there was a shortage of tp. One of the best purchases I made lol. It gets the job done and doesn't require power outlet near the toilet.
Just 2 pieces of tp is enough to dry out the bum. The cold water becomes unnoticeable and the water pressure can be adjusted by turning up the "Nozzle Cleaning" dial. You'll probably also need a toilet seat bumper.
The video in here shows how to connect a hot water if you must have it https://www.amazon.ca/Luxe-Bidet-Neo-32 ... X2UI&psc=1

The better option is to get one that has an integrated hot water tank, but you need an electrical outlet next to your toilet for that option to work.

These all will do half azz job, bought one from Costco and now using it as expensive toilet seat. In my opinion the best method is wipe and get in shower with hand held shower head and body soap.

You don't have to censor your swears, ass is apparently perfectly acceptable on rfd.

I would say it does 90% the job for me, and all have to do is dap my ass with little bit of toilet paper, check for stain and boom...lol wiping ass will leave some stain in between the ass crack, water is the best to blast it off..

I disagree. Its all about the water pressure.

i have never seen one hooked up to a warm water supply
they all use water from the toilet supply line and heat it with an onboard heater

I bought the neo luxe from amazon and for me the job it does varies depending on the type of shit. if its diarrhea, these bidets are a godsend. If its a solid dump, then the bidet is generally pretty good but takes some time, around a good minute to wash properly. If its those sticky dumps that I have once in a while then the bidet im using isn't so good at cleaning. Some people say to increase the pressure, but nobody likes having cold pressurized water pounding in your crack with force. It feels kind of like hail.

So in general, 90% of the time, the bidet works and it works well.

Why post like you know what you are talking about when you don't?

This is heated from electricity and does not need to be hooked up to hot water

Does anyone know a thing or two about bidets? I want one but... don't know how to evaluate for quality. Google has not proved super effective. I'm willing to spend a bit more on it, since I'll be using it for years

After returning from Japan we had seen the light.

We bought https://www.costco.ca/bio-bidet-uspa-68 ... 58776.html - It frequently goes on sale for < $400.

Once you're use to getting your stuff washed by water and having a heated seat, you never go back.

You may want to buy a cheap one first and then figure out what improvements you’d value.

adjust the pressure to max, do a little shuffle on the seat while it's spraying and that'll even take care of Chewbacca's ass!

You have 2 kinds of bidets - manual and auto. Manuals are hand held ones, the cheapest amongst them. You have literal water bottle like ones which is for portability or ones that quickly installs to your tank's cold water hose and just hangs on an attachment you hang between your tank and lid. When needed, you grab it, aim and press the button. You re-aim while spraying to clean all areas. A valve can be bought that will allow for mixing of hot and cold water.

The auto are separated into 2 - non-electric and electric ones. Non-electric are like your Luxe bidet, a few Brondell bidets, Kohlers, etc. These ones can be pure cold water only or can attach to your sink's hot water line for hot water. The install between your toilet and seat. Which, most of the time, will require toilet seat bumpers. Controls are to the side which you turn to use, depending on model, switch to clean mode to clean the spray heads, switch to feminine wash mode or switch to posterior mode. By turning the knob, you control the pressure as well. And depending on model, another knob is used to mix the water temperature.

Electric ones are further split into 2. The toilet seat replacement or the full toilet itself. This one just installs to your toilet's cold water line as it heats the water in its reservoir. The toilet seat replacement sits on top of your toilet. It varies on features too long to list and discuss. The full toilet itself is a toilet with built in bidet and features varies as well.

For brands, I would think Toto is at the top as that's one of the widely used one in Japan. And if you fly out of Narita Airport in Tokyo, if I recall correctly, they have a gallery that specifically demos the Toto brand which you can do your business in as well. There are also Korean branded ones that are rebranded here in North America.

I myself bought a rebadged Korean brand called Bio-bidet which is also the same as USPA brand I think. Been using it for close to 4 years now and its still running strong. I've just been lazy to run a proper electrical outlet so I still have an extension cord running on top of my counter.

So you just have to find a brand and look at the features the provide and see which ones you must have and which ones you can live without.
