it's not the 1520 that's been a hot deal lately, this was just added to costco.ca today. Spotted it in my daily search for the 1520.
Amazons lowest price was $107 and averages $125
List price $169
So at $89.99 seems a good deal.
373 in stock at time of posting so you might be able to ponder this purchase longer.

Gentle reminder that on soft steels, 15 degrees is too shallow. It makes the edge more prone to rolling and the knife will lose sharpness faster than if it was sharpened at 20.

There's a reason German knives are usually sharpened at 20 (and it's not because they don't know about shallower sharpening).

Good to know. Are the Henkel knives 15 or 20 degree?

Depends on what year they were manufactured. The website currently says most of their knives are 15.

"The blade-edge angle for all Zwilling J.A. Henckels cutlery, with the exception of santoku knives, is 15 degrees on each side (30 degrees total). The blade-edge angle for santoku knives is 10 degrees on each side (20 degrees total)."

I have a mix of Wusthof and global G2, I would’ve jumped on the 1520 sharpener. Wondering about this. I’ve tried whetstone, what a disaster.

good deal, but I will still wait for 1520 if only for the versatility, and for the fact that its only 10 dollars more.

How trustworthy is this brand? Never heard of them and $90 seems quite steep given that you can get a good whetstone for about $50

I got the 1520 last month and it works well for me.

In my “internet research” they are the only brand that consistently comes up, usually with lots of positive reviews. But, that’s just my reading/experience.

Got the 1520 a few weeks ago. It sharpened my knifes very sharp in about a minute or so.
It used to be only death and taxes were inevitable. Now, of course, there's shipping and handling, too.

Thanked OP, good deal on this sharpener. I've got G2's and some 30 year old Henkles and I'm waiting for a 1520 as well.

Is the 3rd stage really necessary for a sharp knife?

It's gone on sale for $99.99 a couple times at Costco in the past few months. The only problem is that it sells out really quick within hours when it does. I just barely missed out on it the last two times.

I loved mine. It a 3 stage model 250. IMO you need one in every kitchen if you are too lazy to sharpen by hand.

Me too. I'll just use the sharpener that came with my G2 Costco purchase from about two years ago.

I have a question for you good folks in this thread... I have the 1520 which allows for 15 or 20 degree sharpening. I just looked up the factory specs of the knife I wanted to sharpen and it is.... 17 degrees lol. Which angle should I use?

The 1520 is a 2 stage not 3 stage. It has 3 slots. One for 15°, one for 20°, and a 3rd stropping slot for both angles and serrated knives.

My German knives were really shot and the 1520 brought them back in about 10 minutes.

Pshh.... Don't you know? 15+20= 35 divided by 2= 17.5. So you need to run it through the 15 first and then the 20 after and or vice versa and just hope for the best with the .5.
