Free weights is usually better overall from what I've read. I've been training for 25 years with free weights and got significant results. However, I can't say a complete gym like the one in the OP won't work. For that price, one can get a squat cage, bench, and free weights.

Very true! This post was more for the people who were in the market for a FT. I missed the last time it came up and didn't want others to miss it either.

But I agree with you 100% with what free weights can do.

$379 for this rack and bench. Get a bar, and add weights gradually in hopes of prices revert to pre-pandemic prices or close to.

Free weights are better I agree, but more room for error. Techniques seem very easy ("just pick up the weight off the ground" etc.), but they take years to master with proper coaching (lat engagement, tight hip flexors, thoracic extensions) . Most pandemic home gymers are gonna feel it in a few years.

I didn't have problems getting significant results without proper coaching. It only took months from reading and videos. I did compound exercises 3x a week, and ate quite a bit of protein daily. Results were quite significant after a year. What I did was properly not perfect form, but it was good enough. I didn't feel I needed a trainer, and I didn't want to pay for one. I rarely get injuries from lifting; usually from sports (hockey).

You don't need to master the techniques, especially if your a novice or beginner, to get results. You can watch videos online, there are literally tons of them, and then practice doing the movement with weights, but avoid lifting too heavy to keep your correct form. We need to make free weights less intimidating to beginners because they are the best option to build muscle and they contribute alot to weight loss.

I bought this when it was 1699 - so 20 bucks off now! Price is steep but it's a nice unit.
Only complaint is the bench... it's super low to the ground and only has one seat setting.

I agreed that free weights are better, but this would be a good addition to the home gym.

This isn't really meant to replace free weights, its more of a supplement. Main movements are done with barbell/dumbbells and then this is great for accessory work. Sell the cheap bench for whatever you can get.

Great price for a great product, significantly cheaper than the almost identical FT1 and shipping included is well worth it (trust me). If you need additional weight, add on a weight/gym pin and use Olympic plates.
