How much cheaper is the demo?CaptainCrash wrote: ↑ Buy a Big Green Egg demo or a Kamado Joe. Then buy a Smobot.
Thank me later cause you'll never have to touch a vent.

Once the charcoal is lit (via small torch or however), if you have a leaf blower with a variable speed trigger, you’ll save at least 15 mins ... try it...you’ll never go back to lighting it another way.lostintransit wrote: ↑ temperature maintenance is something you learn,
startup times can be shortened with a propane torch.

Something like that Link (to show, not a deal) will get it going strong in 5 minutes. It's the first thing you should buy after a Kamado.

Great deal and a fair price. I would be tempted if you had to sell, but I think you'll get a buyer at this price (or close to it).Petro99 wrote: ↑ I’m selling my big green egg if anyone is interested. It’s served me well So I bought an XL.

Didn't realize this existed. Do you find it's a good replacement for a BBQ and Smoker?shylok wrote: ↑ I have ordered a primo xl.. And have put that order on hold.. Ordered a masterbuilt 1050 ($1100). Convenience of smoker, but charcoal.. Gravity fed. Start and go.. Has a fan /probes /pid thermometer panel built in.
I spent half hr messing with my akorn kamado kooker today and I smell like a campfire.. I may still get the primo xl but frankly I don't know.
The masterbuilt comes in a smaller size for $699.
Spent a week reading forums and reviews.. Quality is not supreme but features and function seem exactly what most charcoal folks are looking for.

I unfortunately sold mine a few weeks ago and have seller's remorse. I really didnt use it much on the whole and thought it would be better to sell. However with this pandemic and more time at home I could have used it more. Don't think about it just do it and buy it!

Currently using tons of charcoal on the masterbuilt. Should have gotten smaller 560 one, as you can mod the vent at back to reduce burn rate. It works well for startup and cooking.. I feel like something is missing from cooking directly on the coals. But gets smoke rings even in sausages. Did homemade Lao style sausages today and smoked for 2 hrs.. Did Hawaiian flat chicken yesterday, insanely moist and delicious at the breast even.
Really is simple, light starter.. Turn on and set temp, close door and 6min later you're smoking at 225f.
Now it's a new product and wifi sucks, gets flame up's so using pan under food, or grillgrates is recommended.
I'm honestly still on edge of seat to buy primo egg bbq to do searing.. But I just got a bbq dragon and the chimney of insanity.. Which is basically a fan and a charcoal chimney starter married.. I watched a video where coals were up to 1100f and searing steak was amazing.. Lol this might just fix my craving for the egg style grill. Who knows. No perfect grill. Everyone does some stuff well. This is why bbq nuts have 3-4 grills.. Each serve a purpose.

People ask how many bbqs do you have? I answer and feel no regret with having 3 and wish I had more. It is a passion and great hobby to have.

I normally only have one at my house.. Currently there's 3 on my balcony. Lol. My neighbours must think I'm nuts. My wife already thinks I am.. It's pretty miraculous that my cheap akorn really holds up pretty well in end product to the two more expensive grills I recently bought. It's a really good value.
But yea outdoor kitchen next time, and it'll have a variety of grills, gas grill for quick and easy, low and slow grill(charcoal likely), and then something to do pizzas and broiling, but maybe also a egg.. Lol.
My buddy made his own pizza oven it looks awesome and works well. His wife says he tile he picked makes it look like a turtle..
I mean I've done sous vide for 72hrs before, so what's a 5hr set of ribs on the grill..
