[Costco] DK2 4.5 ft. x 7 ft. Single Axle Multi-utility Galvanized Steel Trailer Kit - $1,299.99 ($300 off)

Costco is selling a nice galvanized utility trailer. This is intended for light duty (payload of 1,639lbs).
It comes to your door as a kit (made in China) and requires you to assemble it. Reviews are good. Some issues with fit and finish and having it assemble it with poor instructions but the support from the manufacturer looks to be good. There are some complaints about the gaps under each of the gates but the trailer is very functional as both the front and back gates lay flat to carry up to 12ft boards.

The Manufacturer is headquartered in Burlington, Ontario (Design, Sales, Support, etc.) You can order the full array of accessories from them (spare tire kit, cover, drive up gate, etc.)

Anybody want to chime in on these?? Usually the rule of thumb is never buy a trailer or a kit from a big box store. Like a snowbear trailer for instance...utter crap. This trailer that OP has posted has me interested just for a pandemic project but I dont think I will recoup my investment when selling it.

It's not the greatest utility trailer but it does offer great flexibility for dump runs, picking up wood, soil/gravel, etc.

Here are some additional review sites:
https://www.amazon.com/DK2-MMT5X7-Might ... ll_reviews
https://www.rona.ca/en/dk2-multi-utilit ... -330733320
https://www.costco.com/dk2-4.5-ft.-x-7. ... 41985.html
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Detail-K2-1 ... /206586893

After reading many of these reviews, there are very few complaints about the the trailer itself with many people surprised by the value it offers.
The issues mostly have to do with 1) assembly - needs two people to flip the trailer over; 2) missing pieces; 3) parts don't fit together well; and 4) poorly written instructions. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, you should be able to overcome most of these issues.

You'll struggle to find a galvanized trailer at this size with this price. Similar models that Home Depot sells run between $1,799-$2,199.

Is it the best trailer, NO.
Does it offer great value, YES (assuming that you can get through the assembly process. Feedback on the DK2 support has been good).
Will this work for most homeowners, YES.

As for long-term resale value? Dunno.

Would be nice if it were 8' long for 4x8 sheets of plywood/osb/drywall

Agreed. Must be a packaging limitation.
Or they figure since you can drop the front gate down, this is a none issue.

For those downvoting... please post links to better quality at the same price, or significantly better quality for less than $2k.

I'm genuinely looking for a trailer for dump runs and lumber hauling

I have this exact trailer from Costco, except in non-galvanized. That is the one that went on sale 2 years ago. Anyone down voting this is doing so out of ignorance. It’s actually pretty good. I found the instructions were easy to follow, and it was easy to assemble with basic tools. I did have a problem with missing parts, but the distributor is in Canada, so I had to wait a couple of days. Way better than anything I could find used for the money.

No. Trailers of this size and type typically do not have brakes.

Is there a brake flange on the axle?

On edit: Looked at the product manual listed in the OP. The images do not show a brake flange.
If one really needs brakes, a straight axle with brakes should not be all that expensive.

Solves this issue:
I read that, but with the gates open you have to strap them front to back. Not having to strap them by simply adding a foot to the length of the bed would be convenient.

For those of you who own this, can you put the back gate down and use as a ramp to drive an ATV onto the trailer?

I bought a non galvanized version from DK2 a few years ago. I use it for light duty work at my own home and 7 rental units. I have a few minor complaints.

1. It's not galvanized (my own dumb choice)
2. There's nowhere good to install the license plate holder
3. The fenders suck.

In my opinion, it's a great trailer for the price.
