[Costco] Dr Martens 2976 Black Chelsea Boots

On sale at Costco.ca. Technically men's style, but according to Google the sizing difference between men's and women's Docs is just one size — a men's seven is a women's eight, for example.

The 2976 was the first Chelsea boot we ever produced, way back the early 70s. This minimalist edition comes in all-over black mono without compromising on Docs DNA: welt stitching, grooved edges and an AirWair heel loop. Crafted from tough-as-nails Smooth leather, the black boots are welted on our signature air-cushioned sole. Just as they have been for generations.

The rugged Docs take on the classic Chelsea boot. Manufactured since the 70s
Polished Smooth is the original Dr. Martens leather: super durable, with a smooth finish polished to a high shine. Clean with a damp cloth and care with Dr. Martens Shoe Polish
Our Goodyear-welted lines are heat-sealed at 700°C and reinforced with our signature welt stitch
Built with core Dr. Martens DNA: grooved edges, an AirWair heel loop and visible welt stitching

Material
Durable and famously stiff to start, our Smooth Leather can be polished to a dapper shine or artfully scuffed-up depending on your preference. Restores and rejuvenates with no polish or shine: our Wonder Balsam is formulated to keep leather strong and supple, and ensure your boots last even longer.

Care Instructions
Clean footwear using a damp cloth and allow to dry, then apply Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam. Allow to dry, then buff vigorously to desired shine using clean Dr. Martens shoe brush. Dr. Martens Wonder Balsam is designed to bring well-worn footwear back to its best. Our balsam wax nourishes leather — keeps it supple, strong and smooth. Used regularly, it will prolong the life of your footwear.

These are a decent price. However, I can't recommend them for 'on your feet all day' use.
I've worn Doc Martens and I've worn Bundstone. Comfort wise, Blundstone win hands down on comfort. I can wear my CSA approved (stiffer sole, safety toe and plate) Blunnies all day, and have zero hesitation pulling them back on at the end of the day to walk to the corner store.

Going to have to give Blundstone CSA approved boots a try after reading this. I just came out from living under a rock. I've never heard of Blundstone boots. Which # style do you prefer?

There are only a few styles available in Canada. Basic, rubber toe, and metatarsal.
Depending what you are using them for will be the deciding factor. I wore through right the toe (my 'bad habit' kneeling knee) on my last pair, and was going to buy the rubber toed, but I happened upon a lightly used pair on Facebook for half price.
I can't recommend them enough.

I have a few pair of blundstones and these doc marten 2976 in brown. Blundstones are more comfortable and imo look better so the doc martens hardly get worn.

Think I paid around $100 for my pair in brown, can't say I recommend them at $150.

If you are open to options, you might want to check what's available on sale at UJB: https://unionjackboots.com/sale.html

A few models seem have good discounts (M/W/U/Kids) but I can't recommend any particular one. YMMV.

Around this time last year (Feb 27th, 2020) UJB had some Dr. Martens on sale (expired though) 60% off: ujb-dr-martens-sale-up-60-off-2358184/

Not sure if that's an annual event at UJB.

For what it’s worth these are not the winter version of the 2976 boots. See the link below for the winter version with the winter leather, winter sole for better grip and fleece on the inside for warmth. Recently got the 2976 winter boots for $160 on Amazon, they’re pretty nice.

There’s nostalgia in Docs but I’ve always found them flat footed, on the heavy side, and the patented sole slippery on ice.

Since Costco is not an authorized dealer for this product, the manufacturer’s warranty does not apply.
