[Costco] Great Plains Unbleached Bread Flour (10kg) $7.99

With many people staying put during the pandemic, bread making has become more popular.

While the more common all purpose flour will suffice, bread flour contains more protein than all purpose flour. Protein helps form stronger gluten, which makes better dough for bread (esp sourdough), rolls and pizza.

Most supermarkets sells bread flour at a higher price than regular all purpose flour. But Costco sells 10kg of Great Plains Unbleached bread flour for the same price as all purpose flour, at $7.99. While this is not a discount for Costco, it is a discount for bread flour if you were to purchase it from anywhere else. I've not seen a cheaper price for bread flour. For example, King Arthur Unbleached Bread flour is $1US per pound.

Happy baking!

I don't know if this is a "hot deal." This is regular Costco price and has been for a while.

we usually buy the(rogers) all purpose flour for 6,99 i think it is at costco but recently in the last month or 2 they switched the bags, the bags have a ton of i guess breather holes and then white tape on the top and the bags leak a ton. i thought the bag we bought a month ago was just a bad one so yesterday went to buy another but everyone i grabbed leaked flour. It was unreal.

Wish i saw this brand at costco i would of picked a bag up.

I picked up this awhile back, it's decent flour.
Made lots of sourdough with it.
Everytime I've been recently it's been sold out though.

Do all Costco locations sell bread flour?
I have only seen AP but have not been in a while.

You can get 20Kg of bread flour from Wholesale Club for $14.47. Slightly better deal.

Just make sure you will be able to use it all up before the expiry date.
Some say they never notice, but fresher is always better.

Regular price for Rogers Silver Star bread flour is $13.99 for 20kg at Costco.

This Great Plains stuff isn't really a good deal.

Water flour salt yeast says low protein is better for bread. Op says higher protein is better for bread. Anyone tried both? I’ve been working with low protein for normal yeast and poolish and have had excellent results. Haven’t tried higher yet.

Why do you say that? I know that wheat is grown with pesticides... I guess is what you are referring to?
I always thought the amount would be nominal enough.

Nothing to worry about unless you're a broadleaf weed.
