[Costco] HeartSine Samaritan AED 350P defibrillator for home use - $999

Great price for an at-home AED, not meant for kids, but is a great tool for a cottage or something.

Wow I can't believe Costco carries these. Could certainly be a matter of life/death esp. since paramedics in Vancouver area are beyond swamped. I'm lucky I live near a fire station.

FYI for anyone considering, the batteries in these units expire after 5-10 years depending on model and need to be replaced ($50-100)

Pads expire every 3ish years and also need replacing ($100-200) so make sure you’re setting calendar reminders!

EDIT: looks like both are a 4yr expiry in this case. NVM!

You missed key point ….your life saver and if it’s used for cardiac arrest they will send you no charge replacement

He didn't miss the point.
The unit needs up keep which is a key safety feature for its intended purpose.

If you didn't know AED = Defib,

First thing you should be taking is basic CPR course

Not buying this

Equipment is worthless without knowledge

Basic first aid should be mandatory in the high school curriculum!

I don't think that "lack of surprise" can lead to a heart attack.

This is a really nice company program but the chance you'll be replacing it on your own dime for regular maintenance is much more likely.
My point is don't tuck this away and expect it to work perfectly in 10 years.

Also if you're considering this for the cottage; let your neighbours know you have one. Much better chance someone will benefit at some point.

Every electronic device need some sort of upkeep. i think every 4 year if i am spending 220 bucks to save a human life. it’s well worth it. i know few paramedics who bought one… some brand offers them free battery and pads every two year or four year depend on brand … perks of being front line person.

Interesting product that Costco sells.

I remember taking a specific course for using an AED many years ago. It certainly wasn't covered in basic standard first aid course. Maybe that's changed since.

All shsm(Specialists high school major) programs in the school system mandate a certified first aid and cpr course. They have these programs for a variety of subject areas. It is up to the schools to take advantage of them.and the funding from the government.

I think you have it backwards. It’s the car battery that’s supposed to jump start your heart
