This is one of those laptops that just makes no sense to me, the dedicated GPU is pretty bad and the lack of SSD and quad-core at it's price point are not ideal for a machine like this.

Do any costco's carry this type of lap tops in stores? I went into one yesterday and they only had the lower end lap tops and ipads at store, pretty much $400 and lower.

Wait for the next gen 0.14 nm graphics by AmD or Nvidia. They will run much cooler, better performance, and lower power draw. A big plus with mobile.

I'm using a similar DV7 from 5 years ago. 2 disk bays means buy the SSD you want and still keep the 2T hard drive. Dedicated graphics gets me through light CAD work and while everyone else is running to plug in their laptops this tank keeps rolling for hours. All depends on what you're looking for I guess.

I got a high end laptop from a Costco a few years ago. They come and go just like everything else.

Pretty cold compared to some of the $999 ultra book deals we've seen over the past few weeks.

Ive heard the "wait for" for decades now when buying computers. wait for this, wait for that. Suddenly two years pass because you wait.

This is a terrible deal! "Clearance" my ass. It's on clearance because no one was dumb enough to buy it.

the 2gig of vram doesnt matter when the card is a 940. if youre going for gaming, its not going to do too well.

This is a huge gaming laptop with tons of ram but has a low end video card which doesn't make sense at all.

What if you dont game. What if you want a laptop with a lot of internal storage and a big display for day to day use

They're banking on people thinking nVidia / Radeon automatically = great graphics.

Just like Dell shoving a Radeon R5 M335 in the Inspiron 5559 series, it's barely even faster than Intel HD 530 and generates a lot more heat.

Then you spend $400 on a laptop and put a $150 2TB HDD in it rather than spending $1000 on a laptop from a company notorious for making terrible laptops that fall apart after 6 months.

Regular price at BestBuy is $450 for an Acer 17.3" laptop. Keep an eye out for sales and clearance items, they come around all the time. Don't spend $1000 if all you want is to do is regular day to day stuff. Got my dad a 17" Acer with an i5, 8GB RAM, 1 TB HDD and discrete graphics for 600 or so a few months ago. Even that is overkill for his needs but it's a heck of a lot better than $1000 and will last quite a while. Although, Acer build quality is noticeably worse than it was a few years ago.
