HOTDOG COMBO = $1.25! ($0.25 cheaper) Only in Vancouver

Vancouver has a $0.25 cup fee for every paper cups/bags.

Costco reduced their hotdog by $0.25 to counter the $0.25 cup fees so their members can still enjoy the $1.50 combo.

Other big corporations like Mcd, Tim Hortons, Starbucks, and 711 keep them as profit.

People also get taxed on the $0.25 fee.

Now, the Vancouver council will review their cup fee bylaw because small businesses and Costco are abusing the "loophole".

Edit: To clarify: The loophole is Costco and small business owners reduced $0.25 on their drinks so their customers don't have to pay more.

I love Costco and I'm going to buy another hotdog combo this week.

+1 for Costco! That's great customer service.

Update. I wanted to understand this cup fee a little more. From the city of Vancouver website. https://vancouver.ca/green-vancouver/cups.aspx

“ Effective January 1, 2022, a minimum fee of $0.25 must be charged for each single-use beverage cup distributed. Businesses keep the cups fees. Revenue from cup fees is not remitted to the City.”

Because this ‘fee’ isn’t remitted to the City, what Costco seems to be doing is to modify the price to $1.25 and adding a separate charge of $0.25. This is to adhere with the City’s rule. So Costco still gets their narrow margin and us consumers don’t pay more.

This brings up other retailers that are still charging regular prices for drinks/combo packs that includes a cup and a bag AND charging the extra $0.25 and $0.15 respectively. Those retailers are pocketing the additional fees! Is McDonalds doing just that?

Our municipal government has no clue what they are doing.

Let's put a tax on paper cups DURING a global health crisis.

25 cents? That's pretty wild. What do they expect ppl do instead? Pour the drink in their hands? Who thinks up these laws? And oh yeah tax on a tax, that's the Canadian way!

Is it supposed to encourage reusable cup use? Because isn't that like banned/prohibited at most places during all the covid shens?

Also it says it includes the cup fee, so doesn't this really make it $1.00, which is 50 cents cheaper than everywhere else?

Might as well drink the pop if you're eating whatever that hotdog is made of

25cent for the cup...the cup cost less than that...
instead of taxing everything, the city should simply ban human from Vancouver.
If no human in Vancouver, then the forest will take over the city and it will be truly green Winking Face

Ya we do because it says “All-beef wieners”… this is Costco… not some street food from some unknown source.

Doesn't matter. If you look at it at a molecular level, you're just eating a collection of molecules, so what does it matter if it's from the belly or the ass?
