[Costco] King's Pastry Full Moon Mooncakes $15.88 (double yoke)

Costco Mooncake is back again. Feels a bit earlier this year. I did not take a picture of the ingredients but I included last year's post. This was at Markham Location (Yorktech).

Unfortunately, price went up by $3 from last year.

Last year's post

Edit: added photo showing ingredients. Yorktech location now has assorted mooncake.

Does it say where they’re made? The ones sold in BC Costco only say “BAKED IN AN AUDITED FACTORY”. Scary stuff.

Mooncakes are not the custom for Dragon Boat Festival. It is sticky rice wraps. Mooncakes is only for Mid-Autumn festival which this year is September 10.

This is the the earliest I have seen mooncakes in Costco. Usually the earliest is mid-July.
Have a nice day!

I doubt it's from last year. They usually make the export stuff first in anticipation of shipping delays.

It's a Chinese traditional food for a Chinese traditional festival.

My local Costco, winnipeg south, has another kind, something red, and it was like 22.99(?), don't remember the detail.

Etobicoke
Etobicoke South Costco also has moon cakes. Except not the yellow box lotus seed paste type. But the red box assorted type.

My guess is that the importer anticipated shipping delays and/or COVID lockdowns so ordered extra early. Perhaps shipping delay wasn't as long as they'd thought so it arrived early. Instead of having these sit in the warehouse while money is tied up in inventory during period of rising interest rates and fluctuating ForEx rates, might as well sell these ASAP instead of waiting for September. After all, just like Valentine's Day chocolates or Christmas Decorations, the price of moon cakes fall precipitously after the mid-Autumn festival.

Serious deal-hunting moon cake eaters only buy moon cakes AFTER the mid-Autumn festival.

Just checked and the Mid-autumn Festival date Sept 10th this year, which is quite a bit earlier than usual. So it makes sense that they are showing up early.

I think this one “king’s bakery” is made right here in Toronto. The king’s bakery is in mississauga ontario. Unless they import moon cake from China then repackage it.
