Im just a common man who spends a lot of time on the internet, but from what I've learned on Bob is the oil guy if your vehicle calls for 5w20 then 0w20 will be more than sufficient. 0w20 is considered higher quality than 5w20 as it takes higher quality base stocks to reach that 0w start viscosity than the 5w.

There are plenty of threads on the two being interchangeable, but the 0w20 being superior especially in cold climates:

I recall when the 4th gen Rams first came to market the 5.7 Hemi in Europe called for 0W20 and 5W20 in America because 0W20 was impossible to find here back in 2008.

Since the Liberals won re-election you would be crazy not too stock up on properties before the dollar loses half its value again.

My engine has a capacity of 4.7 Quarts which is 4.44L

These jugs are 4.73L

Last time I got an oil change, the mechanic guy poured the whole thing into my car and the oil on the stick was WAY above the H level on the dip stick

A week later I had to follow this trick to get the excess out, very smart and simple technique

I complained to Costco that I have a NA vehicle that uses 5w20 and that they should get it in stock at some of their warehouses. Fell on deaf ears

As in you contacted Costco via e-mail (or similar)... or did you just complain to the employees working the floor? The latter will probably do nothing. Not many cars use 5w20.

If you need cheap and decent synthetic 5w20, just get Wal-Mart's Supertech product. It's the same thing: https://www.walmart.ca/en/ip/super-tech ... 0201913858

I called head office ordering for Costco Canada, limited assumption to assume that I complained to a floor employee.

Your suggestion appears to be OK. But it doesn’t include the dextros additive which Is common in Kirkland Oil and Castrol.

presumably they determined it is not worth the floor space I'd run 5w30 as 5w20 is just a nod to cafe. I will contact my Warren Rep on Tuesday to see why supertech 5w20 is dexos in the US but not Canada.

Watch Gerald Celente on YT, big crash coming according to him.

I've got many years worth of oil and filters, especially the Walmart oil when it was $17/5L , unfortunately empty shelves lately....

all this complaining about having to spend an extra $10-15 every 10,000 km on oil. I bet most of you spend that on fuel per day.

It's odd, you'd think that with oil prices + eco fees generally climbing you'd expect the reverse direction for any type of oil price. What the hell happened in recent years that made synthetic drop so much?

Oil types that are commonly used

5w30 - 37%
5w20 - 25%
0w20 - 15%

It appears whoever orders for Costco is not maximizing floor space with the most commonly used motor oils. And did not research or have any knowledge into the market to maximize sales.

Interesting. Though, just to be clear: Dexos is a GM standard, not an additive. It just means the oil has been certified for use in GM engines where they specify Dexos. I suspect your Ford Edge may not require Dexos, though I could be wrong.

Source on this? 0w20 is very widespread, many brands switched over to 0w20 once availability got better. I do recall seeing 0w20 selling very quick when they had them on sale, in the 2-pack for $29.99. Quick enough that it went OOS before I was able to get some.

0w20 is typically an upgrade from 5w20, as it requires more higher quality base stocks to make. If your car calls for 5w20 I wouldn't hesitate to use 0w20.

5w20 are typically synthetic blends (as Fords Motocraft is) but they can be achieved as a conventional oil. Whereas 0w20 needs synthetics and more of them, typically full and 100%.

The only way I would go out of my way to find 5w20 is if you really wanted to stick to Fords Motocraft 5w20. If you are using other brands that are cheaper and more accessible then why not go with the better 0w20.

I wish I had a car that called for 20 weight oil. Mobil1 0w20 EP lists 60-70% PAOs on their SDS which is the highest possible quality base stock at the highest amount I've ever seen on a SDS. My 0w40 oil lists a paltry 10-20% PAOs.
