[Costco] KitchenAid 5.7 L (6 qt.) Bowl-lift Stand Mixer - $319.99 in-store and online

Costco are running a promotion on the KitchenAid bowl-lift stand mixer for $319.99. Not as cheap as when they started carrying it in-store ($299.99 in Nov of 2020 I believe), but for $20 more, not a bad deal. I've been keeping an eye out for these and stock is usually an issue (I think it sold out on day 2 when they introduced it, at least in the Vancouver store) and they increased the price to $399.99.

Note that this is a 'bigger' stand mixer without a tilt-head and a more powerful motor, so check your counter space. There were 4 left in the Vancouver store on Monday evening. Good luck!

Pretty sure these are made with their cheaper AC motor which is noticeably louder and less reliable than their DC counterparts. Still not a bad mixer, just be aware it's not the same quality as other similar looking ones.

You seem to know a fair bit about them, which is the best bang for buck, 4x weekly use hard dough

but the only kitchenaid mixers that still use DC are the 6500 line and the 7 quart ones. so its double the price at least, unfortunately :(

I don't think Costco sell the 6500 or the 7qt Proline. But the DC motor is supposed to be a beast, and quieter. It is barely available on the KitchenAid website. This is the 590W motor (vs the 1hp motor in the DC lines).

For most people, this Costco one is fine, esp for the price. Should do all regular tasks.

But with the use ur describing, definitely get a DC motor one. (6500 or 7 quart)..

The ac motor will heat up with that much use esp on tough dough.
The DC motor has more torque (rotational force). So will be better for hard dough.

Wish Costco had the Artisan for a good price. Need something for a small kitchen without much counter space.

That does sound like a beast.

Not just that, the DC units have a better gearbox, uses a proper planetary reduction and is much quieter lol
AC motor sound very gritty, metal grinding noise, as if it was defective but is normal, the DC one sounds more like industrial equipment haha

This is a teardown of the old 6000 HD with the oddball model specific tulip shaped bowl and attachments that was sold exclusively at Costco a long time ago

And this the gearbox on the AC unit

They've upgraded the cover to a metal one vs plastic in older models but the worm drive gear is still prone to wear and tear and stripping if you use it heavily, be ready to replace it in 2 years time.

Where'd you get that? Asking for a friend.
Do you need it or do you want it?

Is this considered serious 6 professional? Where does this stand based on model advertised on KintchAid website?

It’s said that series 7 with is better for heavy duty use and particularly making pizza dough. If I use it a couple of times per week, is this considered heavy workload? I always want to buy the best. But, if Costco doesn’t sell the “best” or “highest” model, I usually tend to go with Costco, as long as the product is good enough.
