[Costco] LeapFrog LeapStart Preschool Success System and Book Bundle - $34.97

Looks like Costco is clearing out this green version. I'm not sure what the previous price was, but judging from the pink version also on Costco.ca, it's most probably $54.99.

For Comparison:
Amazon - $49.99
Walmart - $54.98
Toysrus - $64.99
Mastermind Toys - $59.99 (out of stock)
--------

Product Details:
Experience the magic of the LeapStart Preschool Success interactive learning system. This system grows with your child and gets them excited about learning with interactive touch-and-talk pages.

Features:
- Engages kids through books and audio for an experience that reinforces learning and helps kids better understand the concept
- Includes the Scout & Friends Math With Problem-Solving and an additional activity book
- Use the LeapStart stylus to tap on the pictures and words to explore reading, counting, problem-solving and more
- Most replayable activities have two levels with 50+ key skills per grade level covering a variety of preschool through first grade subjects
- Intended for ages 2-7 years; requires 2 AA batteries; computer and internet required for download
- 2 books included

Nothing against the deal, it's a good price, but I would very much like to caution this part: computer and internet required for download

I did not buy this thing. It was gifted to us, and as much as it *does* get used, it is a MAJOR pain in the butt to get working. The amazon reviews point out the same issues I had.

First off, the books weren't loaded, except for one freebie book. So if give this to your kid as a present with more than the starter books, be prepared for computer installation debugging. The app looks like it was designed for Windows 95, and it didn't work on one of my laptops. I think it just wasn't recognizing the "tablet" thing. Ok, move on to another computer, download the horrid app again, install and then pick the books that we have. The app then tells me there's not enough memory for all of the books (I'm talking like six books or something, nothing crazy.) So ok, I un-select a book and get the books loaded.

We try a book, ok lots of sounds, but no image. Point/click on a bunch of images on the pages, and finally, ONE character displays an animated thing on the tiny screen. Next page, same thing, maybe ONE animation? What is this garbage.

Days later, my son wants to read the one book that got uninstalled. Repeat the nonsense process above.

Weeks later, I order a book in French. Nope, doesn't list. Can I install the french firmware on this tablet? NO. Their tech support says I have to buy a french table to read french books. If the costco deal would sell me a french book I would buy it, but I'm guessing its in English only.

Good luck!

Thanks for this. Hate how all devices seem to need an Internet account setup these days, especially for such a simple item aimed at toddlers. Will pass.
