Not a hot deal IMO.

I don't want this but even if I did I would not jump on this deal. You can basically get 5% savings from Lego VIP any time which is about $3.50. With double vip it there are more savings.

Lego double VIP happens like 3 times a year and you also get bonuses like if you spend through AP site (5x right now). So why would I ever buy via Costco?

Maybe not you, but here's some reasons someone else might prefer to:

1) When you have the Executive card, you get an extra 2% on purchases
2) If you're missing a few Lego pieces in the set (it rarely happens but can happen) it will be easier to return it to Costco than deal with Lego, who's going to send you the specific missing pieces and will be much more of a hassle).
3) Not everyone has Aeroplan

Just an FYI but my son had a piece missing from a set (twice actually from same set!) and it's pretty seamless to contact Lego and get a replacement piece. You just fill in a form, wait a bit over a week and it shows up in the mail. All for free.

It's double VIP points at Lego this weekend which equates to 10% credit on future Lego purchases. Slightly better deal if you purchase through Lego regularly.

Yes, I've assembled dozens of sets and even though it's easy, sometimes it might take longer than a week based on availability and logistics. No question Lego has great service, they send you the missing pieces no question asked.

I did mention about the LEGO 2X VIP that's ongoing right now; but not everyone prefers points over instant discount. Having those points make you to get yourself into another LEGO purchase in the future. The instant discount is good for a one time LEGO buyer. Btw, the 5X AP ended yesterday, it's back to 1 pts per dollar now.

Like many things, purchasing directly from Lego is an individual's preference. For some, the Lego points and GWP are important.
In the case of this Bonsai set, Lego is priced at $70 so even with the points, it's close to the $65 price. Also, this is currently backordered at Lego.com.

Personally I prefer the immediate price savings or bonus set with purchase. I've averaged about 1 in 10 in regards to purchasing from Lego vs other retailers (Costco, Amazon, etc.). I'm not too big on points as that's just a way for them to get you to continue to buy from them (IMHO).

Costco has a great return policy.
Shipping is included.
2% cash back (if applicable).

As for the missing piece service, in my experience, it makes no difference where you purchased the set from. It just occurred to me now, they don't even ask for proof that you actually have that set that you're requesting pieces for. It can be done online and the missing piece(s) show up in a few weeks. Solid service.

Bottom line - buy it from wherever you prefer.
In these times, one should be glad that the choice of where to buy your Lego from is the hardest decision that you have to make.

True, however about a few months ago, Toys r us had this on sale for $60. By the time I noticed the sale, it was OOS online and the stores that had any in stock were far from me.

Recently had a 20% cash back offer for Lego.com from Rakuten. Of course, with my luck, the Bonsai Tree was OOS at that time.

Ordered this from Costco while it's available. Buy first, think later.

Can't agree more even as I'm a Lego fans. Not sure why they're now releasing a bunch of fake Lego plants. Adult an build lego sets but I still don't understand why people want to build a Lego plant. It's not attractive to me as a display piece as a plant (a real plant is way better).

I picked up this set from Mastermind a couple weeks ago with a $10 off I got in a Hellofresh box. Noticed it's sold out now but maybe keep an eye out if it gets restocked.
