[Costco] Macbook Air i5 10th gen. 8GB/256GB + 3 yr applecare + $999

EDIT : Price valid until 10/31/21

Processor and Memory:

10th generation Intel® Core™ i5 processor
8 GB RAM

Drives:

256 GB SSD
No optical drive

Graphics and Video:

13.3 in. LED backlit (2560 × 1600) retina display with True Tone
Intel® Iris Plus graphics

Communications:

Wi-Fi 5 + Bluetooth 5
FaceTime HD camera

Price: $999 (or $750 when subtract $249 for apple care+))

FYI: There is NO time machine. A 10th gen i5 vs M1 CPU comparison is a good brain exercise but not a deal breaker at this price to SAVE $500 IMO.

FYI II: AppleCare+ for Mac extends your coverage to three years and includes up to 2 accidental damage coverage. Each incident is subject to a $129 or $ 379 service fee, plus applicable tax. In addition, you'll get 24/7 priority access to Apple experts by phone or chat.

FYI III: Similar MBA with M1 CPU is $500 more. If anyone has legacy apps that may not be certified with M1 CPU yet and want to save $500, this is a good option. MBAs with latest Apple M1 fanless chipsets has longer battery life, 11 hrs vs 15 hrs, better performance of up to 40% (even less noticeable for average users in day to day operations). They both have same retina display and share many components. I'd buy this if it was available 2 months ago. We have multiple MBAs at home and business.

Maybe another 10 years from now, apple will change back to intel. I will buy an intel Mac then.

I don't pay attention to Mac, just wondering, what's wrong with intel and macbook?

Nothing if you want bootcamp (windows). There is still a market for these.

There is nothing wrong with intel.

Just Mac and apple silicon M chips works better at performance, price, heat control, battery life, and so on

It would be one thing if Apple was charging a lot more for the M1 Air but they are not - it's the ultimate value play for a Mac laptop right now. You are getting a lot more performance and futureproofing for a couple hundred bucks more than this.

Intel processors use more power, produce more heat and are not as fast as the Apple Silicon M1 processor.

In this MacBook Air, the CPU and GPU performance throttles (slows down)under heavy load. Additionally, its fan can spin up to 8,100 RPM, which corresponds to about 45.8 dB(A).

Does the MacBook Air 2020 have an overheating problem?

The M1 MacBook Air is said to be three and a half times faster, five times faster graphics and nine times faster machine learning.
Also does not need fan, since the M1 SoC runs a lot cooler.
The battery life is up to 15 hours of browsing compared to the Intel-powered Air’s 11 hours of browsing.

I won’t downvote, but there’s almost no point in posting deals involving intel MacBooks unless they’re really underpriced. Like at least 50% off or more. M1 silicone Macs are just that much better

I just bought one a few weeks ago thanks to rfd. Just got my airpods refund a few days ago. They are a sweet deal. So happy with it.

Why do users keep posting deals like this? You should be hit on the head if you buy this for 999$ instead of a M1 for a couple hundred more.

What makes this a cold deal is Apple Care is bundled with it. If I could save a few hundreds more without the Apple Care, it would be a hot deal IMO.

Just a heads up, the basic M1-based MacBook Air was about $998 (with GST in) with the back-to-school split order trick.

If Intel is still around making their own chips 10 years from now.

The battery life on these M1's are insane - bought my daughter an M1 MBP and it lasts all day at school and all night for homework.

No way someone should spend more than $600 on one of these, and The Source recently blew out a pile of Intel MBA and MBP models for $300-$500. I picked up one, just as a backup.
My last and final digital game I purchased at PSN from those Sony Devils was on November 22, 2020 - Ban that Sorny!

:P you never know, anything could happen in ten years. Maybe nvidia will take over the role.
