Smokers are so awesome. I have the Treagar 780 pro. Set it and forget it. I rarely use my BBQ, kids loved the smoked meat

I'm in year 2 of use for my 560. No issues so far besides a rattling fan, but that's an easy fix...xmanofsteel69 wrote: ↑ Yeah, that’s what I meant by beefier design. My worry is longevity in these products. I’ve heard horror stories online of these breaking down quite quickly and only last ~3-5 years. I think I’ve put a pause on this purchase and will maybe explore it after by Princess auto pellet grill dies.
No rust even in Vancouver s ultra rainy and humid weather. I have a covered deck but the BBQ gets occasionally dripped on by condensation.
The firebox has some weird type of firebrick that disintegrates. I personally haven't checked as my hopper is always full. I probably won't ever check unless there's reason for me to check.
If anything is going to break, it'll most likely break within the first year and you'll get replacement parts. After that you've got the Costco warranty lol

Yeah, the inside smokebox that the air comes out does rust. I wonder if that'll rust through one day and need to be replaced. Hopefully it'll last 10 years but we'll see.thephenom wrote: ↑ I have a 560. There are some cheap metal used. The smoke box can have surface rust build up fairly quickly. With the design, you'll need to clean out the smoke box once in a while to prevent grease fires. You can make it easier by lining it with foil and switch once in a while. The charcoal box can have some rust build up too but nothing that affects performance.
The good thing about this over a pellet grill is that this can get hotter. Some people also convert it to burn wood rather than charcoal. No auger to deal with.
My only real complaint is re-lighting the grill. It's hard to get previously lit charcoal out, making it harder to relight the grill. Overall it's a good smoker that doubles as a bbq.
There's a leaving curve for relighting. You have to lightly agitate the grate the charcoal sits on a few times to remove built-up ash, then I put a firestarter, and after approximately 2-3 minutes without fail, you can close the doors and start the grill. Lump is more forgiving as it'll have more air pockets but lump will absolutely clog.
I made a brisket last week and used my Napoleon kettle instead. I was able to maintain 225F for the first four hours without any fiddling, then it shot up to 400F because it hit a big pocket of lump... I was rushed since I had some work calls, so wasn't thinking about my lump placement (should have snaked it). In retrospect, I should have used my MB560, but the kettle is at least twice as fuel efficient if not more.

Since the heat is coming by the fan. Does the food still have the same taste as direct charcoal BBQ?

I bought the 560 when Walmart cleared them out. You can use lump charcoal, charcoal briquets or wood chunks. Never smoked before...and now I'm making the most incredible food ever. I'd have no problem upgrading to the 800. Customer service is great from Masterbuilt. Like the other posts stated...no need to babysit your food.
You know you want it...no regrets!

it is a cane torch. it makes things so much easier. if you are patient it goes for 50% off. i am pretty sure i bought mine for $20 or $25
i stuff flyers in the holder then use the cane torch to light everything. it has been great.
i would recommend the cane torch for all your charcoal lighting.
i use a Webber kettle master touch as well. which i use a chimney for. but the cane works good as well.

I've decided to hold off at this price, but if Costco drops this another $100+, I don't think I could pass on it and I'd just take the shot of this lasting for more than 5 years. My wife is used to her father's old propane BBQ which he made last 25 years and expects expensive items to last as long. High expectations...JP3ll3ti3r wrote: ↑ Still 390 in stock, waiting for better deal. C'mon Costco you can do better

There are a few RFD folks that own these things and post their cooks in the RFD BBQ photo forum.
I’m sure they’re awesome, but based on what I’ve been reading on the RFD posts, they are harder on charcoal fuel consumption.
More pros than cons from what I’ve been hearing though!
Cooking Capacity looks awesome.
Not that I’ve tried the food on these things yet, but I would bet it would beat Traeger wood pellet smoking in taste.

Yes to both great smoker and griller. It will use more fuel than regular charcoal kettle covers but it's also no need to tend to the fire.ambitious_survival wrote: ↑ This would be a great smoker. Would this work

Due to negligence for the most part. If you do high fat cooks, you need to clean your grill... Those is true for pretty much every grill.JP3ll3ti3r wrote: ↑ You can but make sure your bbq is clean. I saw many many many video/pictures of the masterbuilt gravity in flames
They problem with no need to watch type grills is ppl actually don't tend to watch their grill and there is risk of grease fires.

don't flyers have chemicals/dyes that you wouldn't want in food?Prelude38 wrote: ↑ for lighting i use this : https://www.princessauto.com/en/36-in-c ... 0008841819

i like the torch idea, but guess will try to user regular printer paper or something similar.

You caught me.
I am definitely negligent with degreasing bbq's. For all grills, I clean the grates well each cook, and remove the ash every other cook, but feel lazy about degreasing due to the late cook times.
For the MB, you really have to keep on top of degreasing the grill... so I tend to not use it ever.
For my other grills, like my Napolean kettle, I never ever have to degrease. It just falls on the charcoal or ashes, and is a easy toss and done.
The MB is a good grill nonetheless.
