This offer is a minefield.
$20 for auto renewal, so you have to spend a future $60 to get it
The pods and paper towel are an unknown deal, the sizes are not indicated
The $25 off $250 purchase means even more money spent.
Spending at least $370 to get your money out of this deal ($60 to buy, $60 to renew, $250 to use voucher)

If you were going to buy a membership anyways then go for it, but i see it as a spending trap

How firm are they on the whole spouse thing? Would this work if I wanted to get a card for my girlfriend?

The fine print says:
"The $20 Costco Shop Card* is only given when you enroll in Costco's membership auto-renew program with any Mastercard. "

If I'm understanding it corrrectly, one needs to 'enroll' in the auto-renewal (akin to Amazon's S&S), not necessarily go through with a renewal.

Note "online"....I very rarely buy anything online at Costco. Definitely a bogus voucher since prices are at least 20$ cheaper in store for bigger items.
