Moto G7 play? It would have been a great deal if it is the Moto G7.

im a budget phone user, looking to replace my Moto x4. ill say i'm even hesitating on this one as the stats seem very similar (and sometimes worse) than the x4 which came out in 2017 and i bought for $150 two years ago!

I bought this phone thinking it would be a decent phone replacement. It's a decent PHONE replacement. Not great for playing the latest games, very slow... it's worth the $159.00 if you just need a basic smart phone for email, basic surfing and phone calls.

I've had this phone for 6 months. No complaints. By the way, it just got auto-updated to Android 10.

Would the Motorola Moto G Power from Costco be a better buy for $299.99, another budget phone?

Full HD+ is usually 1920 x 1080, this is regular HD.

Still a decent phone for 150$

Thanks for this. I spent an hour this morning fiddling with my Moto E Gen 2 to get it to work. It's dying a rapid death. It's going to take a couple of weeks to get here but I was just at the Costco last week and I'm not rushing to get back after that Covid-fest.

Plus I got to use my 1% "everything else" VISA online :)

I can confirm Costco Downtown in Vancouver has both the Play and the Power. But not the LG G8X.

Depends on your needs.

What's most important for you (camera? longevity? features?)

How price-sensitive are you?

What's your current phone, and what do you like about it? Hate about it?

Generally speaking, with the Moto G Power:
+ Great battery life.
+ Perfect balance of middle of the road specs. Nothing stands out as particularly 'weak' hardware-wise to a phone person.
+ Great longevity. This phone just came out and has a well-supported chipset. Expect no-nonsense updates for at least two years.
+ Light software skin. Moto's software skin is pretty close to stock Android, which is nice.
= Plastic back, not glass. Up to you whether this is a positive or negative.
= Camera is average. Good for the price, and you get a triple lens setup. But it's not a standout in the segment (very few phones are, at this price).
= It's on the larger side, at a 6.4" screen size.
- Not great on hardware features. It lacks NFC and wireless charging, and uses a thumbprint-on-the-back lock.
- Big battery means it isn't as svelte as some other phones might be. It's not exactly a chonky boi, but the focus is definitely on function over fashion.
- The display is... adequate. Expect a standard 1080P HD LCD. No AMOLED. Average brightness. So-so colour calibration.
- You could get better raw hardware at a similar price from some less established brands, like Xiaomi.

In general, it's definitely one of the top budget phones right now.

Buy if:
- A large phone doesn't bother you.
- You want a good dependable all-rounder.
- Battery life is important to you over things like camera or screen resolution.
- You don't need features like NFC or Wireless charging.

You should cross-shop with the:
- iPhone SE (Much more expensive, better camera, better build, incredible longevity)
- Samsung Galaxy A51 (More expensive, much better screen, lots of features, attractive build)
- Xiaomi Mi 9T, Redmi Note 9 Pro (Better hardware in general, attractive build, but unsupported in Canada)
- Oneplus Nord (coming this month)
- Pixel 4A (coming this month)

I haven't, but Chatr operates on the Rogers network. It'll work fine.
