My parents have FPL but they face random call drops or calls not going through. How does this compare to FPL? And is it easy to port the number over to this?

Your router sucks. Ooma does a better job dealing with crappy routers, but can only do so much

Well that was a quick diagnosis lol. I don't think it's an issue with my router, I have multiple devices (wired/wireless) connected with no problems at all. Just FPL. FPL is connect to a Grandstream HT-801 which connects to my router.

Have used Ooma for the past year no problems pay the taxes in Ontario so about $5.60 a month compared to the over 30 a month Rogers wouldn't budge only difference I have noticed is no call display on TV. Porting number was painless took about 2 weeks in total, only hiccup with the port was Rogers not letting me know where to take their equipment during a lockdown and they adding a charge for it on my bill more than likely out of spite for cancelling their service.

Is the US calling free with OOMA phones or we need to pay any monthly fee?

If you pay for premium canada and us calling is included think it's like 10 or 12 a month or slightly discounted for a year or you can prepay long distance and use it when you need can't remember exact rated for it as I don't make a lot of long distance calls and they are included on my cell phone e as well wanted to rid myself of home phone altogether but wife won't let it go even though she mainly uses her cell phone. I can live with $5.60 a month to keep her quiet, well about phone anyways.

So $40 to port your current number and $6 per month for nationwide service?
Anything else to know before I jump?

As well have added oomas security system as its on sale at best buy for 11 pieces regular 399 down to 179 bought 2 kits so 400 taxes in uses the same base station have most doors and windows covered along with 2 motion detectors 2 smoke alarms and some water sensors. Has been running a week now and seems pretty stable only hiccup was a power outage where one water sensor wouldn't reconnect right away had to reboot base station.
Can be a free solution as everything goes.to an app but will pay the 56 or so a year to have it work on multiple cell phones. Couldn't find too much about it review wise but for the cost figured I would give it a go as break ins seem to be on the rise in most cities.

If you want to try premium for a year the port is included I just paid the 40 as I didn't need the long distance, only drawback is in a power outage no landline per se but there's always cell phones. Just made sense to be paying bare minimum for home phone as it's mainly just robocalls and spam calls.

Unfortunately, it still likely your router that is at fault. Let me guess, you are using the router that came with the service? FPL gets in trouble because they are a SIP service, using open standards. They have to rely on the honesty of ISP's that are also in the business in selling telephone service. So they put out routers that break SIP VOIP. Companies like OOMA already account for this greasiness, and are smarter at working around the problem.

The good news is these problems are fixable, but they need more troubleshooting, than you are doing now.

CAD $2.54 - Regulatory Compliance Fee
CAD $2.43 - 911 Service Fee
CAD $0.65 - Provincial and local taxes, fees and surcharges
CAD $5.62 - Total
This is to just keep it up. I think local calls included. For long distance you need premium or per minute charge.

No, as long as you connected to Internet even outside Canada, you can call Canada free.

Canada-wide only for the basic. For international calls I use other apps like viber and skype to call other accounts , not phone number

Best Buy has the 2 handset combo also for $99.99 - I had bought it for $129.99 and they gave me back the difference. My number is supposed to port today. So far I've had no issues and I paid the $39.95 for the port since the free port with premium has other "gifts" you can choose instead it you buy a full year (currently o sale for $99 instead of $119) with a free port OR a free security pack A or B which is apparently worth more. Waiting to see how my port goes before I buy a year of premium.

FYI, after my Bell Fibe discounts disappeared I went this route and Bell called me when they got the port request. I was going to just go from a bundle to internet only but they offered me basic TV + 1.5 GB/s internet for $89/month with no expiry on the discount.
