[Costco] Ring Video Doorbell 3+ and Indoor Cam $244 in store or $254 online

Costco has the Ring 3 doorbell in store for $244.99 or online price of $254.99

Item # is 1606664 if you want to check local store stock.

Costs bit more than direct off Ring or Amazon but you get an extra indoor camera.

Installation wasn't too hard after watching a couple YouTube videos before buying. Took me like 20 min to install and setup. I needed the angle wedge and there was one supplied in the box already.

After setup got an email for free faceplate. Just ordered that, hope it shows up. Nice $15 value free bonus. Smiling Face With Open Mouth

the battery dies during minus 20 or lower. the doorbell goes offline.
being hardwired means thst the battery has a trickle charger but the doorbell does not run from the hardwire.

source: I hate my Ring Doorbell 3 hardwired to a 24v 40va transformer.

What's the deal with ring? Options for local recording only or do I have to have a monthly cloud subscription in order to store anything?

Mine died twice during this winter as well. Had to take the battery out and recharge it.

The cold problem affects the first nest hello (previous gen) doorbell too. I have it hardwired with 24v 40va and it still dies during cold weather or extended blackouts. Have to pull it off and charge it inside each time (which is annoying because the wire is pretty short and I'm worried it'll eventually break)

That doesn’t even make sense? How do you have a non battery model that has a battery that dies? When did the imaginary battery appear? Anyways, read what I said originally, slowly.

They said doorbell does not run through hardwire. Maybe the hardwire part is on the camera only.. please explain

Some information on the battery and why it needs to be recharged...

https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/artic ... hardwiring

It is connected to my old wiring, and worked as a normal doorbell while battery was being charged. Battery took a few hours to fully charge on first charge.

Are folks finding better options in same price range? There were so many random brands online but I went with Ring since it was most well, and a bit less than Nest.

the hardwired is only used to charge the battery and the existing house doorbell chime, its a slow trickle charger and only charge when the battery goes below 90%. All other functions of the ring doorbell 3 runs of the battery, in extreme temperature, the trickle charge is not able to keep up hence the battery dies, especially if you have many alerts or view live view etc. I had to take out the battery to charge one time this winter, have no problem with battery life during rest of the year.

This is the older Ring video doorbell. IMO, not really worth it. Get the newer version that has a smaller form factor. Also, avoid battery operated because you will run into issues. Batteries don't work well in cold weather.

I wish I never entered the Ring ecosystem. I will be switching over to wyze soon.
Yes I know what do I expect for a video system ... of course there is a subscription model.

I would support it, but the hardware is overpriced and the video is not good at all and you pretty much need the subscription to see any type of history ( EVEN A DOORBELL RING that was 1 minute ago)

I have been using the Ring Pro for approx 4yrs. the wireless chime that came with my initial purchase die as soon as the warranty is over.

Price/Subscriptions/Features ......I will say, unless u want/plan to be in the Ring ecosystem, there are better option out there.
I hate the fact that it require subscriptions to store/replay videos .....and the lack of Apple homekit/Google home integrations .... and also the "only" but extremely poor Alexa integration.

I personally will be switching to the Lorex 2K doorbell when the Ring Pro quit working ....which won't be long.... I think, as it is started to acted and sounded funny.

I have installed a few Lorex systems and is very impressed with their Fusion line....including the 2K doorbell which can work as a standalone smart doorbell with local storage ...or integrated with Lorex security camera DVR.
No subscriptions required either way.

I have been eyeing up this Ring 3+ indoor camera Costco Canada deal also…but I am new to the wireless doorbell camera world and keep going in circles with my research. If anyone could point me in the right direction for the following features (or hopeful features), it would be greatly appreciated!
-Live in Canada (MB) so needs to last in cold temps
-Needs to be wireless (our former doorbell wires are broken somewhere in the wall, so we’ve had no doorbell for 5 years lol)
-Is there such a feature that only starts video when the button is pressed? I am expecting a baby, so my main reason for wanting one is so I can two-way communicate to friends/family at the likely locked front door that I’m feeding/diapering, or tell them to come to the back deck. I am not looking for security/pirate porch reasons (we also face a busy intersection so I think it would go off a lot if I have to keep a sensor on)
-Under $250 preferably
-Open to any brands/suggestions that ship to Canada
