[Costco] SanDisk Extreme Portable 1TB Solid State Drive (SSD) For $149.99 (online) , $139.99(in store)

Features:
Ruggedized - water & dust resistant
Carabiner included
Shock-resistant solid state core
Up to 550 Mb/s transfer speeds
Limited 3-year warranty

If you got $100 or $200 online voucher recently, it's good to use them .

Update: @alwaysbuylow found it at warehouse for $139.99 , thanks.

I already have 2 of these , it’s not that fast , only 550mb/s, but it’s ok fir laptops , ps5 , Xbox x ‘s external SSD.

I’m not sure warehouse will be cheaper, I need to check it out soon.

I saw this at the warehouse without any discount I guess and it was tempting. I might get this as I have to use the $200 voucher any way.

Thanks.

I've had pretty bad experience with SanDisk SSD (no issues with any SD cards), so I steer clear.

I've had a SanDisk 240GB SSD, came DOA, and support was pretty terrible and they literally asked me "can you try testing it in a 4th or 5th PC to see if it detects it?"

When they did finally send me an RMA replacement unit, it died after a couple of weeks later.

Costco has a good return policy so you can't really go wrong with buying it from Costco.

Just in case anybody is wondering, this is the old version with 550mb/s compared to the new one with 1050 mb/s

I had used it for a few days personally and I can understand the down votes, even if I didn't down vote myself. The product works fine, with some caveats.

It's cheaper in store currently (139.99$) but it's a fairly slow unit and only gets slower as you use it.
Mine slowed down to sub 50 MB/s and the only way to restore performance to a certain extent was via full low level format. (brought it back to 375MB/s)

I feel like ssd via USB doesn't get trim support. Not only that but it isn't amazingly fast like my nvme usb c drive is (1GB/s +)

If you have old computer, it doesn’t matter unless your computer has USB-C port.

The new M1 Macs, I assume I’ll notice a difference?

Fast SSD needs to be plugged into TB3 port only.

If you are plugging into non-TB3 ports, this is fine.

At least this is what I heard, google is your friend.

This gives me a reason to avoid, was it overheat then slow down?

external drives that get 1GB/s are TB3 or usb 3.1 gen 2 2x2. i have a WD black P50 external nvme ssd that's rated for 2GB/s. i get around 700MB/s on my standard usb 3.1 gen 2 2x1. i'd imagine it'll do 1.4GB/s+ on a 2x2 lane.

Specwise, this appears identical to the WD Blue 3D NAND. Teardowns show it's just a SATA m.2 drive inside an enclosure (probably get a Sandisk Ultra 3D which is just a rebranded WD Blue). Should be fine, don't expect anything earth shattering though. Decent price for an m.2 SATA drive with an enclosure.

If I remember right, M1’s I/O speed over USB3 is capped below 800 MB/S
