[Costco] Yamaha RX-V385 5.1/Sony STRDH590 5.2 Receivers $269/$349

https://www.costco.ca/Yamaha-RX-V385-5. ... 14797.html
https://www.costco.ca/Sony-STRDH590-5.2 ... 09673.html
Yamaha RX-V385 5.1-channel HDR Receiver with Bluetooth Support $279
Sony STRDH590 5.2 Channel 4K HDR AV Receiver $298

Costco has these two, well rated, entry level, 5.1 and 5.2 channel Receivers until 10/31 and 10/24 respectively, shipped.
These might not be lava hot, but this is Costco, so the return period is at least 90 days, maybe unlimited, so that brings you past Black Friday and Boxing Day to return or price adjust, If there are better discounts on these, or hot BF/BD deals on other receivers. Might be a good option if you need something now, but want to keep the seasonal options open.

11/3
The Yamaha RX-V385 is down $10 to $269 shipped at Costco.
The Sony is still at $349

The Yamaha looks decent. You don't usually get banana plugs at this price

Looks like a Yamaha promo as everyone has it listed for $279 inc Amazon though it's hard to beat the Costco return policy.

People seem to really like the sound quality too, judging by the reviews and comments.

Yep that's true, the Yamaha is available at a lot of vendors at $279.
If someone want a Yamaha and quickly, Visions has them featured in the flyer, and in stock, in store, if you order online for ISPU you will get another $8 off for $271. Return policy is not the greatest though.

Also to buy either receiver online at Costco, you don't have to be a member.

Looks like no network streaming capability on either. Too bad, as the price on each is attractive.

I bought the Sony a year or so ago. Works fine to drive my passive soundbar. I chose it because it is under 12" deep which fits easily into my cabinet. Most other receivers are larger and taller.

I paid about $260 when it was on sale at the Source and they had an online coupon.

The Sony doesn't do any EQ'ing of the sound but I believe the Yamaha would do some coarse EQ when you run the setup.
RFD is not just about saving money, it's about the thrill of the hunt and not paying full price like Joe Shmoe did. This applies to everyday items as well as high end items that I don't really need.

Not sure how pertinent this comment is or how true this is but I noticed a huge improvement in bass going from a 5.1 to 1 5.2 system. I read somewhere the second subwoofer kind of compensates for bad subwoofer placement to the point you can just place them anywhere and they sound good. So if your room has bad acoustics or whatever this can maybe help a lot.

Pretty sure its not placebo. I don't know if it's just the doubled subwoofer power or some pressure wave/physics stuff going on but even at low volumes now the system is sounding great.

I think you would have to go up another $100 for that in the Yamaha's, at current pricing.

Sony's more, but they do have a 7.2 channel model with Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support at $398 for those looking for that functionality.

Two subwoofers is usually better than one for evening out the bass. It's definitely physics. If you can't take the time to fine tune the placement, going with two corners of the room usually yields satisfactory results. Make sure you place them apart, because two subs in the same location acts like one bigger sub.

How do these compare to the similarly priced Denons? S or X series.
More info would probably help you get a response from someone?

If anyone is interested in the Sony STRDH790-7.2 Dolby Atmos and DTS:X receiver mentioned above, I noticed that Best Buy has Open Box, GS certified units at $329 shipped.
