[Costco] YMMV: Costco 20 lb propane tank (empty): GTA

Hi All,

Saw this at Warden & Ellesmere as well as Overlea locations yesterday

20 lb propane tanks (empty) on clearance for $24.97. I believe regular price was $36.99

Not sure if it's all stores but it was at both these locations.

Lots of stock at each location

Happy hunting

Would this be the normal price?

Don't the propane tanks from Costco come with a first free fillup of propane (included in the price)?

Nope, they usually add 11.99 or something similar when you check out if you want a fill-up. then you take it to the costco propane station with your receipt. for locations that dont have the propare station, they usually have pre-filled ones in a cage outside that you can pre-pay for and pickup on your way out.

How much does the empty tank weigh?
An empty 20 pound propane tank is apprximately 16-17 pounds empty, so about 36-37 pounds full. I weighed my tank a couple of times after filling and recollect it being 34 or 35 pounds.....guess that is close enough.

If I recall. I think the free part is the initial purging or something to do the first time. I may be wrong since last time I bought my tank was 5 years ago.

I just got mine last week at the Dixie and Dundas location in mississauga for $33.99 + $11.99.
The licensed operator just put in 16lbs and said that they don't go over the 80% limit on the initial fillup.
$11.99 > $0.59/lb being charged on fillup.
Wonder if I can get a discount back on the tank.

Wow, that changed. When I bought my tank about 2 years ago, the sign clearly said first fill-up included. I paid for it, took it outside, showed the guy my purchase receipt, and had it filled for no extra charge.

Only if that location still has stock.
