Covering paint with primer?

Hello rfd

I have a home, not planning to keep hence this question...

If this was the original finish was paint and primer from sw and I painted over it. Can I use the paint and primer to cover it back up to get the original finish?

Not really understanding your Question (confusing wording)

Primer is used to prep a surface for paint
Or to change from one type of covering to another

Maybe this website will help = httpS://localsandiegopainting.com/8-rea ... ver-paint/

In paint terminology ... the word finish
Usually refers to either the paint sheen ... or special effects (ie Faux Finish / Venetian Plaster Look etc)

Paint Sheens = High Gloss - Semi Gloss - Satin - Eggshell - Flat or Matte

Yeah, kinda hard to understand the question. A basic answer would be that you can use primer to cover almost anything. If you have a paint/primer combo, you can use that to paint over whatever is there now. What's confusing is you are asking about restoring an "original finish" by painting over it, which is weird. Normally restoring a finish would involve stripping something, not painting it again.
