Credit evaluation while opening chequing account

Hello,
I've read on this forum that a credit check is not required when opening a bank account in person that will not have overdraft protection or earn interest. I simply can't find information confirming this on any website including Canada.ca

Does anyone know where I can confirm that it is true a hard inquiry is not required to open an account? I'm looking at Scotiabank specifically
