About a year ago I was seeing most puppy ads between 2-3K and now I see plenty of listings of popular breeds, like gold retrievers, doodles, shi tzus etc for under 1K. Granted, I know the pandemic drove the market pricing upwards, but I didn't expect prices to go down so fast. Is this a wide proliferation of online scams, or is this normal pricing these days?

Sure, I can understand that. I just haven't looked in a while and was pleasantly surprised at the seemingly sudden price reductions. Just wanted to make it wasn't some well-known scam, lol.

Big dogs are always cheaper than small ones cuz big ones have more pups in a litter.

Rescue organizations have also brought many dogs into Canada. Huge supply surplus right now.

i haven't been actively tracking dog prices, but popular breeds seem to continue selling at COVID prices

Someone else said it....it's purely supply & demand.

Everyone and their brother seemed to decide that during Covid, it would be a great idea to get a puppy.

Then the reality hit of actually owning and caring for a dog and many people started returning the dogs because they became inconvenient.

We will see a lot of puppy pricing come tumbling down in the next few months. All these breeders increased their litter counts as well without reservations and now have a bunch of puppies just sitting there un-homed.

That's some nasty incentives / externalities from COVID...
Economic situation doesn't help either, people probably can't afford to own them.
