Is it customary for builders to put some sort of underlay underneath engineered/laminate floors?

Is it customary for builders to put some sort of underlay underneath engineered/laminate floors?

And does it work? Seems to me builder throws the floors directly onto the subfloor. I'm looking at Quietwalk here and wondering if such a thin piece of material makes a difference?

Good point. I forget sometimes that Toronto isn't the center of the universe.
