Dark Prints

I just printed some photos from costco and it came out darker than what I thought. Is this normal for printing out photos or do i need to do something before i print them

Did you edit the images before sending to Costco or were they straight out of the camera?

It is normal for prints to be darker and less vibrant than photos on a monitor. One reflect light and the other project light.

I just compared a printed 4x6 picture from Costco to the same picture on my smartphone. Unless you have a bright source of light (like the sun) on the printed picture, the printed picture will be always darker.

My test:
- under the morning sun, the print is about 3-5% darker VS 100% brightness on the smartphone
- well lit room, the print is about 50% (half a stop) darker VS 45% brightness
- room with curtain half close, the print is about 200% darker vs 33% brightness

It is not a precise testing, but it should give you an idea of why.

is this any way i can make it bright when printing. I read i should take the auto correct option when printing it out.
