Solid roaster. Just finished my last order with them and ordering again. They sell 8oz/227g bags, so easy to get some variety.

$50 for free shipping is quite steep, considering beans should be consumed fresh. That's at least 5 bags or 3.75lbs, it would take me 2+ months to get through that.

Edit: Correction, those bags are 8oz, I mistakenly thought they were 12oz.

Also where do you see 12oz bags? I see 227g which is 8oz... going for ~$14.

Even after 20% off that's only 2.5lb to hit the min $50.

I’ve ordered 5lbs and just freeze them to retain freshness. Based on my experience it’s rarely impacted taste significantly for my brew methods (espresso and filter).

Totally great deal OP, one of the top Canadian roasters in my mind.

My mistake, you are right. That makes them expensive for me, even though it'll be easier to go through 2.5lbs...

Edit: Looks like I got 12oz because OP said 12oz..

I just ordered and no tax is charged as it's exempt.

One of the best coffee by far and worth the price even at retail...20% off is sweet.

Yeah the question of 12oz bags was directed more toward OP.

After discount for the price is comparable to other roasters.

What did you order?
I usually stay safe and order Dancing Goats but want to try other blends as well.

I can't math. I've updated the main. Meant to write 8oz. Was comparing the price against a different roaster that was selling 12oz

Try the butterfly kisses! Was great. This time I've ordered one ea of their single origin Ethiopian/Guatemalan beans.

Yeah I’m actually like you I’ve stuck with dancing goats generally. I find the more exotic blends hit and miss based on what they’re mixing. But outside of demello if you like dancing goats there’s really great stuff at Hale coffer, their espresso blend is even better imo, currently its this blend of ethio+Brazil which is best I’ve had, if you try it pull 18g in, 25g out in 30 secs. 5lb = $85 too so it’s a steal.

Quietly coffee is another roaster I’m trying out, I heard the head roaster at Sam James moves there which makes sense as I’ve been disappointed in Sam James recently.

Hope this helps the coffee geeks like me out there! Love this stuff

I only started buying from local roasters so I apologize for a general lack of knowledge.

Just wanted to know if anyone has tried social coffee (they're up in Markham/Richmond Hill), and how they compare to DeMello flavor and quality-wise.

Based on a per oz analysis, they're both around $1.5/oz so the price is relatively the same. Free shipping starts at 30 for Canadian orders.

Thanks

It's best just to try different roasters and judge for yourself, plus it's part of the enjoyment. Social Coffee is well respected, so there's no risk in buying from there.

On the front page of DeMello it says:
You can now have your coffee order ground to your specification. You can specify it at the checkout (payment) page in order notes.

For social, you can specify ground, click on "whole bean" for each bean type and there is a drop down.

Interesting, usually my go to is social if I don’t roast myself, I also buy pilot and detour sometimes. Never tried this one before, may try theirs and place an order after my current batch runs out

Thanks OP
1. Buy cheap, buy twice
2. Don’t buy because it’s cheap. Buy it when needed or it brings convenience/happiness/better quality in life
3. Buy now think (regret/return) later
4. If the gut says don’t tell your lady, don’t!

Never thought working from home is my coffee experiment time. Only drink Starbucks when in office
