Death Stranding (PS4) - November 8, 2019

Well I cannot believe we have a release date for Death Stranding given the history of Kojima Productions. So one of three things is happening, a) the game is actually polished and ready to go, b) Sony felt they had to put something out about this game prior to E3 2019, c) the date is arbitrary and we will actually see this Spring to Summer 2020.

Regardless, what are your thoughts on the new trailer?

I think it will be polished and ready to go in November (at least polished by modern AAA-game standards).

Trailer looks interesting, but I am still confused to what this game is about. I could see this being in the high 70s/low 80s score on Metacritic, while doing well commercially.

I get the impression 90% of the game is going to be stealth and avoiding conflict which doesn't really appeal to me. Artistically it looks incredible though I wonder what'll play like on the base PS4

lol you mean like some other obscure stealth game by Kojima... I think it was called Metal Gear Solid or something like that.... only one of the greatest games ever made!

lol I'm only really familiar with MSG 4 and 5 both of which gave you a fair amount of freedom in how to play. They encouraged stealth but taking people out was almost always an option as well. This game looks like the entire goal is to avoid physical conflict entirely

MGS3 > MGS1 > MGS2 >>> MGS5 = MGS4

MGS5's plot twist was so dumb and clearly the game was unfinished after Kojima was fired. There is an entire act missing.
The main point is the plot twist in MGSV was horribly written and ill conceived. It becomes an implausible plot hole even compared to the outlandish things that happened in MGS4.

Am I the only one that wasn’t impressed by the trailer?

Doesn’t look at all like something I would be interested in...

Depends I guess. It looks like a few things put together. Reminds me aspects of The Matrix, earlier Assassin's Creed, Metal Gear Solid, Nier Automata, Del Toro films, Blade Runner films, and more. Game play shown does not impress. I do not want to be running away from conflict the whole game. That part where the person is running away would piss me off. Want me, come get it.

Most reviews are coming in today, and so far the big reviewers are shitting on it hard. Only reason this was so overhyped was because it has Kojima's name on it.

Looks like I'll probably cancel the preorder I got for $60 and wait for this to drop.

Reviews seem overall pretty high but it is pretty polarizing, some notable outlets have it at 60-70. Not really surprising considering its a Kojima game. I'm always looking for a unique experience and this sounds really interesting so I'm going to keep my preorder.

I do not know what to think of this game, but I pre-ordered liked 3 years ago with Amazon at $49.99 less 20%. So for $39.99 might as well hang on to it for now.

I read a bunch of reviews and still don't really get this game. Seems like weird for weirdness's sake. Basically, Hideo Kojima's self-congratulatory fun-times with all his Hollywood friends. Kinda like what happens when you cut loose a popular writer without any editors whatsoever. I'll wait for more impressions/reviews to get a handle on just wth this thing even is.

Death Stranding has an 86 review average on opencritic, 84 on metacritc.

Good score overall.

Easy Allies' review: They gave it an 8.0 which is a low score for a big budget game coming from Kojima.

Konami allegedly fired Kojima for going way over budget with Metal Gear Solid V.
I wonder how much Sony gains or loses on funding Death Stranding for console exclusivity.

I don't know about the scores. I get the impression that it is being scored higher than it would be without Kojima attached to it. I mean here we are on the doorstep of another next gen, leaving this gen with a game that has players running around in mostly isolation. How many will actually play through to the end. I know myself I do not think I will have the time for this. Would rather spend the little play time I can muster these days, banging away at a couple of other titles.

I've always been mildly curious about this game ever since they showed it, even now I'm still intrigued by what exactly the story/world is but now that I kind of have a sense of the gameplay it looks like a hard pass to me.

A ~50 hour long, open world, walking/hiking simulator... sounds like an absolute snoozefest and combines everything Ive come to dislike about modern games.
