Deep Electrical Boxes

I need a couple deeper single and double gang electrical
Boxes to install GFI and some other thing.

Checking out HD website for the life of me I can’t seem to find the deeper boxes.

Can someone direct me to the deeper 3”+ boxes?

Looking for single and double gang boxes

This looks like the ticket:

And they are gangable.
Thanks. I wasn’t looking for the gangable boxes. I kept searching for 2 gang boxes and coming up empty.

Didn’t think the easy solution was to buy single gangable boxes and put them together

Yes, you just remove the sides of two singles and put them together as a double.

Go to an electrical supply place where they actually know what they're selling. HD/Lowes are there for convenience, but if you actually need to know something or get decent quality supplies, go to a proper shop.

Sometimes HD will have deeper double and triples, sometimes they wont. Most of the time they do not if memory serves me correctly. So buy some gangable boxes and spend 30 secs and call it a day.

If you have a better electrical supply store in your area, go there first and just tell them what you need. Depending on what you're installing, 3" sometimes will not be enough.

Around here, as far as I know ALL of the electrical supply places will sell only to electricians. I know, I've tried several times over the years. I take it that's not the case everywhere?

I poked around one of the stores here last week. They would have sold me anything I needed. I just didn’t know exactly what I needed

It is just deep boxes, you can find them at homedepot just fine. You may want to consider wider boxes or 4" x 4" box for GFI though.

the question is, how are you going to remove the old box and install the new box without causing much damage to the wall?

You can't, you have to make the opening larger in order to mount the box.

Even at the distributors it’s pretty rare to see deep double/triple gangs on the shelf. I don’t think I’ve ever bought them before. Gangable is pretty much always the way to get deep multi gang.

Where are you located out of curiosity? All of the suppliers (Gerrie, Nedco, Westburne, Guillevin) I typically work with will do cash sales to non account holders. However the pricing typically won’t be very good for those people. If the same item is available at Depot you’ll probably pay less there.

EDIT: I just realized your location is in your profile.

It’s actually quite easily done if you know what you are doing. I’ve removed many boxes for customers in my career in order to swap to a deep box and can always accomplish it with no visible damage after the job is done, without any drywall repair either.
