Needs to change. Why discriminate agains single people?

Not correct at all. When you get married the CRA uses family total income to calculate what benefits you're eligible for (like HST credit, etc), so many single people start losing out on tax benefits once they get married and spouse's income is added.

CRA benefits (and Guaranteed Income Supplement) take family size into account.

A couple have would have fewer expenses than one person. They don't need an extra bedroom so they can split rent or mortgage payments much more easily, and they can share electricity costs. Of course, some costs (eg food, transportation) would have no savings.
