I feel like many small Canadian businesses are overpaying. I want to help them but can’t seem to land people. I could use some advice. I feel like they would rather pay more for a big name like Godaddy because they perceive that it’s more stable. It’s a side thing I’m running and I’m getting demotivated. Thank you.

If there is anything in this post breaking rules let me know. I don’t post often but my account is likely older than some of you. Lol. 👴🏽
I use hostpapa and they made it seem like what I paid for was everything in full for 3 years...

No, I got a surprise bill for $80 or somewhere around there for SSL and something else.

They use WordPress... I don't know what everyone's obsession with WordPress is but it is not as easy as people make it seem. If I were to delete my site right now and make a new one, the admin pass never works.

Honestly I would have been happier staying with WIX even though they're way more expensive, it's a business write off anyways.

Definitely not WHC.ca They are canadians, but are horrible. I have many reports of some serious issues from website to email corruption to server issues. Just issues on top of issues. They are just not professional at all.
If you looking for a quality web hosting, go for siteground. They are very good. Very fast servers( great for google).
I use voice typing, expect mistakes...

Are you saying you offer web hosting and looking to help switch people over?

Long time ago, I have had my domain, web, email with Godaddy, I need to use ASP.NET and MS SQL Server, their hosting suck it down several times a week. After that I have switched to SmarterAsp.net since 3-4 years now. There were some problems when they migrated/updated their servers but since 2+ years it seems quite stable. I still have a domain staying with Godaddy but have moved all others to Namecheap because Godaddy increases the renewal price crazyly, I will try to move everthing out from Godaddy, not a reliable ISP for small business. My website has only some simple pages nothing fancy and very little trafic. I pay for about 7.95USD/ month with unlimited plan

Approximately $1.50 per month, per domain, for Amazon Web Services CloudFront to serve a static site from an S3 bucket.

It's cheap, it's fast, and the AWS console provides a level of control that I can't get from most other hosting companies.

I've hosted with all the big guys in Canada - canspace.ca, hostpapa, whc.ca, etc. Recently I've also started playing around with AWS which I use for development projects, but I've found that it's nice to have someone to reach out to over the phone when push comes to shove.

Ultimately people may be overpaying, but reliability is worth far more than saving a few bucks a month.

Can I ask which host you think is the best to use? What do you think of AWS?

It really depends on your use case. canspace has the best support from my experience and I would trust them with a public-facing website. If you are just doing development work and your site isn't actually "live", then I would suggest AWS for this purpose - it's the most cost effective. Note you'll need to know what you are doing in this case.

Can you guys recommend a good cost effective and simple (low tech) approach for hosting my domain. I don't have a live site. I only use it for email accounts for me and my family. It's just for personal use.

I'm with Host Pappa now and got a crazy renewal bill.
