It’ll be hot when Rakuten has 15% cashback.
I can wait all day.

Edit: The 34” Alienware monitor AW3420DW was on sale recently. It was $899 with 8% cash back. I was the OP, and I didn’t even buy. dell-alienware-34-curved-gaming-monitor ... #p34709120

Edit2:
34" for $899 before tax.
38" for $1665 before tax.

4" increase costs ALMOST double the price..

Edit3:
August 28, 15% cashback wish came true!
Still too expensive....

This has bad contrast and black uniformity that is very noticeable.

Now is the time to actually wait (if you can) as 4k 144hz IPS/VA panels are just starting to roll out.

I'd rather spend a few hundred more for an Oled 48 inch...

Using a TV as a desktop monitor will not work for everyone. Yes, they are great for media consumption if size and space is not an issue but they are still not ideal for most people using it mostly for work and then some play - the ergonomics and pixel density aren't ideal.

I wish I bought it but waited too long before making a decision. Now I see that the lg 34gn850 is available for $1179 (-$100 promo discount from a shipping issue for earlier order). LG has started an extended warranty offer for this month but the lack of g-sync module makes me want to wait for the Alienware one again. Is there a huge difference between g-sync and g-sync compatible?

And yeah like another poster here said I am not interested in using a TV and the 34 inch is a better size for my needs especially given the fact that a 3080 can drive it easily for a while to come for gaming.

I unfortunately cannot wait as I need to use this for work and would prefer it on this years taxes for an expense rather than next

My experience is there isn't much difference between G-Sync and G-Sync compatible in the dozens of monitors I have tested.

My 11 year old computer just left the planet and my need for a new pc was just completed. Realizing just now that my Dell 3011 is also in line for departure - this has left me in a hurry to grab a new monitor and I finally chose the Alienware as ebates was offering 8% . My work dictate I need a new immediate replacement!

Personally, I would go with 2 Gigabyte M28U's over this then.

They're popular, but stock keeps showing up.

I don't understand the hate on this deal. I have run one of these 38inch Cadillac's for the past year and well... it's effing awesome. The contrast and black levels are great, especially in HDR, such as horizon zero dawn, and the best way I can describe it is downright blissful. On full bright this screen will fry your retinas, and you can still see people hiding in those dark caves in black ops. Originally I ran this screen with 2080ti for 6 months and switched to a 6800xt, so I can also confirm it works well with AMD and adaptive sync. I get it, not everyone can afford such a pricey monitor, but that's no reason to crap on the deal, I think that dell finances too if you are into that, and if anything goes wrong, dell is easy to deal with in my experience.

Still too expensive for what it is. I have an EX3501R (bigger) but it doesn't have GSync. The Adaptive G-Sync compatible mode works well with my RTX3080. No issues and it cost me only $800 cad. I have heard a lot of issues with this Alienware monitor. I would not bet $1800+ on it.

have you tried pairing your 6800xt with an OLED TV though? such as the LG CX 48

I had the thought to use an oled tv as a monitor, but the thought of burn in with a pc horrified me, and the practicality of sitting directly in front such a beast just doesn't work for my space. Heck I would even say a 38inch is pushing it, but it's only about 4 inches wider than my 34 ultrawide but feels close.

I do have a 2020 q90T, and ran it through it's paces with HDR and adaptive sync... it's noice.

Incredible monitor. Got it during xmas 2020. You do need a powerful card to drive it, especially for gaming. I use RTX 2080TI, and I'm able to run new games on max quality (although the desktop fires up the fans on max as well).

Did not see any issue with uniformity or bleeding.

Who in the right frame of mind pays $1664.99 for a monitor ? At $2455, you probably need to have a hole running through your head or be insanely rich.

Maybe we just buy out a Cineplex or IMAX and then use that screen as our personal monitor ?
