[Dell] Amazon Fire HD 8" tablet 32GB/64GB $85/$115 also Fire HD 10" 32 GB $155 + Free shipping

If you are in the market for a tablet, you should consider buying an Amazon Fire tablet.
Arguably, you get a better product for less money because Amazon subsidize their tablets and lock you into the Amazon environment hoping you will buy other services like Amazon music, Kindle books, Amazon Prime Videos, Audible audiobooks, Whole Foods Market, etc.

But you can easily break free of the Amazon environment and turn your tablet into something closer to a regular Android tablet, by using Fire Toolbox to “de-Amazon” it without having to root your tablet. You can remove the Amazon ads, install the Google Play store or others like the Aurora store, etc. You will then be able to install any other app even if it is not part of the Amazon environment like Chrome, Netflix, etc.

Fire HD 8 32 GB $110 $85 Dell.com

Fire HD 8 64 GB $140 $115 Dell.com

Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix also has the Fire HD 8 32 Gb version for $85 (see attached image) until Thursday, April 22nd.

Fire HD 10 32 GB $200 $155 Dell.com

  • Battery 4850 mAh
  • USB-C cable and charger included

Fire HD 10:

This thread was originally opened as a Staples deal, then it was a SDM deal, then an Amazon deal and now a Dell deal so the story line of the thread will reflect that.

Should work on the tablet without anything added.

Also, on the box, near the UPC, there's a serial number.
Example: G0011J060765Q64X

The first 2 digits beside the "G":
00 means 2020 (tenth generation);
19 means 2019 (ninth generation);
18 means 2018 (eight generation);
Etc.

I suppose $5 isn't that much worth waiting for, for the all time low. I just bought the 32GB version a few weeks ago for $80 from Amazon. But the 10% pushes it past the low.

Use Fire Toolbox to de-amazon it and turn it into a regular Android tablet. It's easy to use.
You can sideload the Google Play store or others like the Aurora store, etc.

  • 8 inches IPS HD display 1280 x 800 (189 ppi)
  • 32 GB of storage expandable to 1 TB with a microSD card
  • USB-C cable and 9 W charger included

The 64 GB version at Staples.ca is also available for $115 (regularly priced $140).

64 GB version at BestBuy.ca $116

Fair warning: Even after trying to decrapify it with Fire Toolbox, Amazon crap will still find a way to run in the background over time (even if you turn off updates) - which will slow the tablet to a crawl. There's some stuff that you just won't have the permission to kill, and eventually those apps will start launching other services...and so on.

Expect to need to reboot this tablet about once a day - I find that I need to use Greenify to kill as many apps as I can and reboot mine daily.

Even still, good for a cheap tablet, and better than most tablets in it's price range. I'd say it's only worth buying when it's this cheap.

Totally agree. I used my Ameri-sibling's Prime account for set up. Showmode, audible, Prime Video. Side load google play store and some IPTV apps and I'm loving my Fire HD 8.

Do you have USB-C?
If so, you have the latest generation.

@XSnapSX
EDIT: I'm not so sure anymore about the serial number/year/generation thing.
My Fire HD 10 serial number starts with G00 yet it says on the box and in the tablet's About section "9th generation".

I remember saying to myself "easy: it follows the years like 18=2018 8th gen, 19=2019 9th gen, 00=2020 10th generation" after reading somewhere on the Internet but now, I can't find that info anymore.

Authoritative source needed.

According to Wikipedia, the latest and current Fire HD 10 is the 9th generation released on October 30th, 2019 while the latest and current Fire HD 8 is the 10th generation released in 2020.
