I was waiting for someone to post this but it never came up.

I picked up this monitor during Dell's 72-hour sale, which ends very soon. It's a no frills monitor so don't expect any extras like Dell's Ultrasharp line.

But it's got beautiful thin bezels and price is 44% off if you add the educational discount.

It's not on the featured splash page on Dell.ca so I had to go look for it. Shipping is free and I got the 4-year extended warranty which also got an educational discount.

My school's library has a lot of these and they look pretty good.

Very good price for this monitor. Essentially the same thing as a U2414h. Just without the adjustable stand.

I see $199.99. How do I add the educational discount?

If you go through the educational discount page, it'll take off another $10.

For what it's worth, I was able to talk to a rep over chat about lowering the cost of the u2414H or u2415 during the sale. I was offered $50 discount on top of the sale price bringing the total cost (taxes in) of the u2414H to $262 or u2415 to $375 in ontario.

My U2312HM got a vertical half-line in blue, only few months after the end of 3 year warranty. Troubleshooting failed, arriving to conclusion the problem is with the monitor hardware. So I am considering a replacement monitor.

Dell currently has:
S2415H for $200 - glossy screen, 1080p, has built-in speakers (useless for me, I have a 2.1 system connected)
U2414H for $270 - matte screen, brighter, there rest of the features are not really needed
U2412M for $290 -1200p, otherwise, seems to be the same as U2414H
U2415 for $370 - not sure how to justify the price difference

Question to SMEs, is $70 or $90 difference between the lower end model to UltraSharps justifiable ?

u2412m does use a better panel. Biggest selling point however for me would be 1200p and height adjust (a must for me). Also I believe Ultrasharp line has a much better warranty or did they changed that? Like 1 year vs 3

Would be nicer if that bottom bar was thin as well.. I dunno why but I don't like how it's thick and the others aren't.

Thanks, good points. Any coupons out there that could bring the price further down?

Thanks, ordered a S2415 to replace my failing 22" ultrasharp which now has 3 vertical lines until it warms up for a while (only getting worse). I'll probably end up using the adjustable stand from the ultrasharp on the new monitor (looks like it'll fit from the pictures).

it's not the same thing that the ultrasharp at all. this one has a glossy screen and ultrasharp has matte...that's a deal breaker for some people

I did not pull a trigger on monitor yet. Are any good deals expected on Black Friday?

I understand that, but I really do want a glossy screen. No direct light on the monitor in my setup.

Well, it's missing a few more things, but yes, the screen is very similar - 24" IPS with the ultra-thin bezels. I've got the U2414H and it's a fabulous display.

The difference between the U2414H and the S2415H is that the S2415H is missing:

-no height-adjustable stand
-no USB 3.0 hub (though it's on the back on the U2414H - kind of hard to reach)
-no DisplayPort, or mini DP
-only 1x HDMI port.

most of these most users don't need.

Also, the S2415H is a glossy display. See description. The U2414H, like all the Dell Ultrasharps, is matte with an antiglare coating.

It looks like the S2415H is less glossy than the crazy S2440L / S2740L series (which were VERY glare-prone), but if you are in a very sunny room, bear that in mind.

See a short review here:

If a matte display is more your thing (IMO, it's better with the Dells), then Dell has the SE2416H on sale today for $100 off:
http://accessories.dell.com/sna/product ... u=210-AFVH

The SE2416H has a matte, anti-glare screen (though glossy bezels for some reason!?). Also, the SE2416H has thicker side bezels than the U2414H/S2415H.
