And we're back, folks.

I like this machine, and if you're not picky about the screen, it's a great build.

I defied three provincial statutes and installed 64GB of RAM in my 4500U. Never been more pleased with a mobile build.

^ Actually the display is the one thing I am picky about. The other specs are fine. In the 15" laptop size, I'm not really seeing many IPS matte screens that have a high sRGB and 300 nits unfortunately that are under $900.

I've had people take offense to my obscene setup but here goes.

This little pup pipes out to an LG 55" UN7300 (2020) 4K IPS TV as Monitor in a 6-quadrant split screen using the free LG Onscreen Control application. 64GB provides freedom to do as I please on this setup.

I use the laptop monitor on the go and life goes on.

My nephew is going into college and they told him minimum specs for computer should be i7, 500 gig ssd's and 16 gigs of ram. would the AMD 4500 meet the i7 requirements? I did some googling and since there are a bunch of i7 processors I assume they mean the most basic of i7.

Also, curious because later in school depending on what stream he takes he may have to use MacOs programs so wondering if this is a machine where he could install MacOs on down the road. I remember that was a thing for a while where people were doing dual boots but I haven't looked into it for a while. He prefers to stick with PC for now. Was thinking worse case he could pass on to his brother and buy a Mac if need be later.

Seems a bit strange to require 500gb ssd. Why must it be ssd?

How is the build quality? Compared to the Asus amazon 519 deal? Does this have a video card?

Yeah, I also thought it was weird to say 500gb SSD. It is related to media (like video production/editing). I think he is probably better off going with a MAC . I just looked at the specs again and I guess they are saying that is what they have in their labs (the specs I provided)

Says:

We recommend students purchase a PC or MAC laptop or desktop with the same specifications or higher as the machines in our labs. Our labs have the following minimum configuration:

I7 processor
16 GB of ram
512 GB SSD
Minimum 17 inch screen, 21.5 inch recommended

But if he buys a laptop he isn't going to buy a 17" screen one (maybe have an external screen).

And then it says the 2nd/3rd year programs are limited to MacOS but maybe that just means in their own labs because when I click on the minimum requirements at the bottom of the page it has the details there for minimum requirements of the two programs and it says they have PC versions -

https://www.niagaracollege.ca/media/pro ... #admission

Anyway will have to get my sister to contact the school and clarify.

Yeah, Hackinstosh was what I was thinking. Personally as much as a I dislike Macs I think he should probably just buy a Mac and get used to it as if he goes to the video production side of the program he needs to use MAC software.

How does this compare to a Lenovo E15 4700U? I am interested in build quality, trackpad comparison, and screen nits in particular. Thx!
