[Dell] Dell G15 Ryzen 9 4900H RX5600M 16GB 1TB NVMe- $1699

Only the second laptop I've seen with the Ryzen 9 in it. And the other (Asus G14) is almost $1000 more.

Laptop has:
Ryzen 9 4900
RX 5600M (between a 1660ti and 2070 from what I've read)
16GB RAM
1TB NVMe
144hz 300 nit WVA screen

I'm sure this is pretty niche in terms of who might buy it, but price seems really good.

We've neem spoiled lately with the gaming laptop deals, so I think most people are looking for sub-$1500, but the specs on this are better than what we have seen lately.

If you have a 10% off coupon this is only $1530+ tax. Pretty good deal for a smokin mobile processor and a pretty good GPU, it's more like a 2060 without RT.

OP - the CPU is 4900H not U.

Why does Dell bother having two USB 2.0 on this laptop? Isn't that a little behind the times?

I'm currently holding onto an MSI Gl65 RTX2070 that was $1500+tax on Prime Day, seeing if BF or Boxing Day can sell a better laptop.
Seems like this deal is close but my MSI is still a keeper.

I heard the issue is fixed by a firmware? Also, Ryzen Controller can probably solve the issue.

This should also be eligible for 10% new-account discount which would bring it down to $1530.

FWIW, the base model with a Ryzen 7 4800H version can be had for $1200 ($1050 with new-account discount) and the CPU performance is essentially the same. Curiously, the 4800H is actually benchmarking slightly faster than the 4900H as I post this!

However that base version has only 8GB RAM, an 256GB SSD, a lesser wifi card and an inferior 60hz screen. If you can live with the lesser screen, most of the other upgrades are easy.

From my research seems like all these new laptops have crappy thermal.

This one seems to be going head to head with the Lenovo Legion offering.

FWIW, the A15 with 4800H + 16GB RAM + 1TB NVMe + 144Hz crapper screen has been at 1,399.99.

FYI, AMD doesn't support thunderbolt, so there is no thunderbolt for all computers with AMD CPU.

None of the AMD laptop's have TB however, the ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming-ITX/TB3 has TB3. No idea how Asrock did it but for a desktop, there is an option.
