[Dell] Dell G5 15 Gaming Laptop, i7-8750H, 16GB RAM, 128GB SSD + 1TB HDD, 1060 Max-Q 6GB $1499.99

Saw this on a one-day MPP sale. Not sure if it is targeted only.

Not a bad price if you're looking for a mid-range gaming laptop. In most examples I've seen, you only would get a 1050Ti at this price point.

NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 with NVIDIA® Max Q Design technology, 6GB GDDR5 video memory
Windows 10 Home 64bit English
15.6-inch FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS Anti-Glare LED-Backlit Display

Gtx 1060 and max q

I never understand why. It's just a 1060 why need to be max q?? Yes this price point you can only get a 1050ti and guess what 1060 max q is not much better than the real 1050 ti. Plus it's a Dell. This chassis is super ugly and heavy. Maxq is designed for super slim chassis not for this kind of heavy and ugly one. Dell is really trying to fool people with this max q thing. To be honest I am spending so much for a gaming laptop why do I need to buy something look so bad.... Just my opinion....

You'll want a desktop workstation if you're doing serious 4k/8k editing. Otherwise, this guy is fine.

I think the 1060MQ is still noticeably better than the 1050TI. The chassis is not slim, especially the bezels but that's one of the trade offs for the low price. I don't think you can get a better looking chassis with the same specs for the same price. May be if you're willing to pay $500 more, you might get a slim laptop but the GPU would be a 1050ti.

This actually has good specs but screen sucks! Worst screen for photo/video editing!

I feel like this build has been at this price for a while now (week or two at least) - unless it's slightly different specs from the other $1499 1060 model I've been eyeing. Don't forget ebates (8% right now) and Unidays (10% if you can get a code) for further discounts.

The 1060 Max-Q benchmarks about 25% faster than the 1050ti in the standard tests. And if I'm not mistaken, in one of the other threads somebody mentioned that you can overclock the Max-Q to get close to actual 1060 performance. As far as looks? Aside from being entirely subjective, some people just don't care.

I'm also tempted by this G7 15 for $1599. The extra $100 gets you:

- i7-8750h vs i5-8300H
- nicer (imo) case
- downgrade to 128gb SSD from 256gb in the OP's configuration
- 2x2 wifi card vs 1x1
- 3 USB 3.1 ports vs 2 (including 1 with powershare)
- 1 Thunderbolt 3 port

Full comparison between the two here: https://www.dell.com/en-ca/shop/compare ... btsb_s802e

Gentlemen, your ears should perk when you see this. eBates is also 8%.

Approx. $1242 with both discounts, pre-tax.

This seems like a pretty good deal like the other one you got. The other one came with a 4K resolution screen though and it's a G7 if that makes a difference?
