[Dell] Dell G5 desktop (i7-10700F, GeForce 3070, 16gb ram) $1675 with uniday and 2% cashback

Based price is $1900, but if you include the uniday 10% and 2% cashback, it will bring it down to $1675 plus tax. This isn't a bad price for a Geforce 3070 PC. However be warn that this PC is small and runs hot.

Thanks OP !

I had to right click and copy the Link in a new window. (Right Click open in Private/Icognito window also seems to work)

What does "run hot" mean? This seems like a phenomenal price, but worry about the heat factor that you allude to.

Same price for dual 8gb sticks, wise to select that option

If you look at the reviews due to the small desktop size and poor cooling, the system can run hot and throttle, but it run pretty quiet.

I'm sure people would be wiser to stick with the 1x16gb stick, and plan on adding a 2nd one aftermarket asap.

500watt, tho i think the dell ones are 80%+ gold... that said, you wouldnt want to put anything stronger than a 3070 in it anyway... I'm guessing at benchmarking use this thing is pulling in around 400watts.

You can’t just add another stick of ram of different brand dude. Even same brand is a hit or mostly miss and didn’t work for me when I tried. There is a reason they sell ram kits that cost more then a combination of equivalent sticks.

Oh... I haven't built a computer in awhile(last one being a haswell) but back then it wasn't a big issue. When put in dual channel mode, it would just default to whatever was had the lower timing and fsb. I guess things have gotten more finicky in the last 7 years.

Would you suggest this for mining?

Not a PC guru but how is this desktop compare to Dell's Precision 5550 laptop?

I've got a literally brand new one that I don't need and would much prefer a desktop instead.

Should I sell that and get this? Or just get a monitor and connect the laptop to it?

500w for a 3700, you may get unstabillity if you push it too far. Also, a lot of dell PC you may not be able to upgrade the PSU because they are using non-atx compliant motherboard.

[Edit] Ive looked at the photos, and it's the same PC that Linux Tech tips bought, no upgrade on the PSU or motherboard possible:

So you may have to throttle the 3070 in heavy load. Forget about OC'ing.

Personally I looked at t his deal, and while the specs seem good, this has really bad thermals amongst other things. This review seemed to cover a good deal:

Anybody know if the XPS models have the same cooling issues as the G5?
