I have had this laptop now for a couple of months and I'm very happy with it so far. The lack of HDMI is a bit disappointing but for my purposes the VGA connector is more useful as I use it frequently at work and with my KVM setup at home.

I was also surprised with the battery life as I am able to go a full workday without a power adapter. :)

Calling the video card a Venus pro with no model number is very discouraging. Also it's a TFT panel not an IPS so I bet the picture quality is sub par especially at $700.

The Venus Pro is a Radeon 8850M and performs decently. For a TN panel, this is one of the better ones. I was worried about it at first but after using it for the past two months I like the PQ on it over the IPS on my Thinkpad X220. The matte screen is also a bonus for those who are not fans of glossy screens.

Here are some reviews on it that can provide more info:

If you can spare a couple hundred more, then the Acer V7 14" with the 1080p screen and GT750 may be more to your liking.

The Y580 is probably the better deal at $713 but I recall some complaints about the wifi or heat issues with the Y480 and Y580 in general in one of the other threads...

I was able to score mine for $550 from a buddy who won it in a raffle... :D

I bought a Y410P right when it came out and has HUGE battey issues. The battery would just constantly drain, even when the laptop was powered off. Something like 20H (turned off) and the battery was empty. I returned it ofc. Do you know if they fixed it?

Latitude is the business line, the lower end model should have a slightly better build than average laptop. While overall power and construction seems to justify this price, I think the lack of hdmi slot is a deal breaker for many.. it doesn't even have a displayport..

No HDMI made it stone cold. Even their cheap azz stuff has HDMI.
