New Inspiron 15 AMD, 5700U/16GB/1TB and 5500U/8GB/256GB

How is this processor compared to Intel i7 11th Gen?
Asking because I recently ordered a 7000 series 2 in 1 with similar specs and intel i7 for $1034.

Pretty decent. I think if it had Thunderbolt I would be on it.

5300U/5500U/5700U are Zen2, but are refreshed with SMT enabled (hyperthreading) and 1 additional gpu core over their respective older sku 4300u/4500u/4700u
5800U and H-Series are Zen3

1000x better

5700U allows SMT and 16 total threads over the 8/8 of the 4700U. I like that they decided to make it dark grey which will help with backlighting. The physical camera cover great too. Having 16gb is perfect because many people won't even need to upgrade now, and 512gb SSD is preferred over the too small 256gb one. Overall win for this years Dell Inspiron. Having touch for the display is great even if it's still a low nit brightness variant. My only qualm is the fact they're using now almost a decade old HDMI 1.4b standard versus at least a HDMI 2.0b even though there is a USB C with PD for displayport.

This laptop... Its great.

The 5500U passmark score is very close to the 4700U.
The 5700U passmark score is maybe 15% to 20% faster than the 4700U, with the new chip sitting at 16,300 (approx.).

Disagree. Granted I'm not impressed, but I need functionality over picture perfect OLED in my laptop screens.

Also, I pump out most laptop screens to outside panels through IO unless I'm on the go.

Browsing the Inspiron 15 5515 Specs Manual and Service Manual, some highlights:

External ports include USB-C DP/PD but don't count on having two 4K60-10bit displays attached (HDMI port is 1.4)

Display specs in the 5515 are typical for a budget laptop: 250 nits, contrast ratio 600:1 (pretty low), NTSC 45%

2 SODIMM Slots available in the 5515 (same as 5505)

2 M.2 slots available for SSDs but this time SSD Slot 1 is 2230/2280 and SSD Slot 2 is 2230 only and both are 2X (2 lanes, so 4X SSDs may not perform at benched values)-- WRT 5505, Slot 2 SSD bay has lost size (it's blocked by an speaker) and the posts/standoffs for a 2242 or a 2280 SSD are not there (or are not shown in the laptop service manual). So sneaky of Dell eliminating the possibility of having a 2280 SSD on the SSD Slot 2 bay. It might still be possible if there is enough clearance over the speaker and under the lid, but the SSD would be loose at one end (maybe taping it down), ungrounded (at screw end), uninsulated at bottom and probably there isn't room for a heatsink. Devious.

Heatsink in the 5515 seems to have been improved wrt 5505. It's got now 2 pipes (heatsink in 5505 has an slightly wider single pipe, IIRC)

Fan in the 5515 keeps same position and same discharge place as in the 5505 (on the back, blowing up the screen requiring having the lid open for unobstructed ventilation)

Battery seems to be 54Wh for this particular model (some 5515 submodels might have a 41Wh battery), but there's no mention about it featuring fast charge or it being long life span / life cycle.

5600U and 5800U are real Zen3, other 5000 CPUs whose second digit is odd are Zen2+. 5600U and 5800U have larger L3 cache.

Regarding iGPU, the real graphics improvements in the 5000 series are in the 5600U and 5800U. See attached graphs for details about relative gaming performance (comparing 4800U/5800U/i7-1165G7 and 5600U/i5-1135G7).

IMO, a real upgrade to Ryzen U 5000 series would be a laptop using a 5600U or 5800U CPU. A laptop using a 5500U or 5700U is just a marginal improvement wrt to a previous generation one using a 4500U or 4700U, respectively, and it's not worth a regular price (again, IMO). I'd expect an Inspiron 5515 going for $550-600 for a laptop with a 5500U (after 10% off, etc), and $650 a laptop with 5700U (after 10% off, etc) -- The 10% off discount for Dell Consumer/Home laptops is permanent through UniDays or email marketing signup, so it's not really a hot deal news.

These being new, how long do you think it'll be before they're part of a sale? I don't think I've ever bought something from Dell undiscounted before (not counting the 10% here, which could also be used in a sale).

Because 90% of laptops, especially at 15.6" have 250 nit 45% NTSC screens. They are way better than the screens of old and people are only complaining because they are used to better monitors or specialized laptops such as gaming ones or wildly expensive 13" models or laptops like Apple ones.

Poor quality is again subjective. The laptop screens are easily better than say my 2011 LCD tv, or my laptop from 2015. Do they come up short against a 13" 300 nit and 72% NTSC variant? Sure. But then I am sacrificing things like SSD size, RAM, a larger screen, and sometimes even greater cost. It comes down to what you need in a laptop. If you need a better screen for accurate photo editing, buy one that is 400 nits or has a 10bit panel and greater coverage. Or utilize the HDMI/Display Port and connect to an external monitor.

Gaming laptops often give better screens with better refresh rates, but they cost more, and tend to cut features such as built in webcams, worse battery life.

I am wishing for this kind of spec (zen 3 amd, 16gb, large ssd etc) in a thin and light body like the new Samsung Galaxy Book 360 Pro with 15" OLED touch screen, pen, and flippable! if anyone find such laptop let me know!

The 13" Macbook Air is $200 more than this, which is hardly wildly expensive. The 13" ThinkBook is the same price and has a much better display (higher resolution, 16:10, and brighter). 5700u isn't even an upgrade on previous generation, really.
